The three-member Podgorica rock and roll band "Sandraun" presented a new video for the song "Silhouette in the Dark" earlier this year, the second track from their EP "Letters from Cetinje", released in mid-2025.
"This EP, inspired by the spirit and atmosphere of Cetinje, represents an intimate and authentic expression of the band, and the new video further conveys the energy and emotion of the music with a visual story," the members of the band "Sandraun" said in a statement at the time.
The band “Sandraun”, in which they create music Bojan Đuković (vocal in bass), Mladen Vujović (guitar and backing vocals) and Simon Malypko (drums), describes this EP as a “silent manifesto” - an honest and direct expression of their music, without compromise or marketing clichés.
In an interview with "Vijesti", Vujović revealed the message conveyed by the new video, as well as the song "Silhouette in the Dark", and announced the film adaptation of another song.
“Last July we released our latest EP 'Letters from Cetinje' which has two songs, of which 'Silhouette in the Dark' is one, so we wanted to make a video for both. So far we have designed and produced each video ourselves or with the help of friends, including Ilija Kaluđerović, Lazar Markovic, Andrej Smislov (like the Russian doctor from Kubrick's Odyssey) and Milan Vujović"For 'Silhouette in the Dark' we wanted to film and show a video in which the band does not appear, but rather the protagonist herself carries the story," he explained.
"The lyrics were written by Bojan (Đuković) while we wrote the music together even before we had a drummer, so we also came up with the rhythm. You can hear and feel that the song is slower and that it has a certain charge of inner life that is shown through the protagonist from time to time," the musician explains the message of the video and the song.
"You can feel and experience a lot through the song, and the video is there to channel the music and its message, whatever it is. We leave that to the audience to conclude, to hear and see, to take with them," adds the guitarist of "Sandrauna", and reveals the team that was in charge of making the video.
"The raw idea was mine, but this time I wanted someone outside the band to make a video from that idea. Vuk Draganić took over the realization after months of developing the story. A very talented screenwriter with whom the cooperation was excellent. We chose the actress together, that's Jelena Stanišić. The director of photography is Mihailo Balandzic, the gaffer is Filip Becic, costume: Vanja Ivancevic, assembly: Vuk Draganić, color: Pavle Vujović, and of course the script and direction: Vuk Draganić", the musician listed.
In an interview with "Vijesti", he explains how demanding it is to shoot music videos for musicians today, and how long it took to shoot the video for "Silhouette in the Dark".
"Well, during the six months since we agreed to work together, we worked out the whole story together, and the filming itself only took one day because the team was great and approached everything professionally. I must add that this video was supported by the Secretariat for Culture, Capital City of Podgorica through co-financing, while the recording of the song itself was supported by PAM (Music Authors' Rights of Montenegro)," emphasizes Vujović.
"Of course, this type of support is helpful for independent and self-sustaining bands and authors like Sandraun, but if we didn't know something about photography ourselves, and if we didn't know how to film and edit ourselves, it would be difficult for us to have these videos. So it's demanding, but at the same time it's easier to film a video than ever before," he points out.
When asked if they are planning to film more songs, the musician answers in the negative, because, as he says, they have already finished the third video.
"We don't plan to, because we have already recorded the material for the song 'Sometimes'. The video was shot in the Studio 9 room in Podgorica. The lighting master was Ilija Kaluđerović, while the director of photography was Lazar Marković. Editing and post-production fell to me. You can expect the video to be broadcast very soon," the musician announced.
