Adam Sandler will be honored this week for his contributions to comedic music.
Although he's best known as an actor, the "Happy Gilmore" star will receive the ASCAP Founders Award for his work in composing and writing songs that bridge comedy, film and popular culture. The award will be presented during the ASCAP Experience 2026 at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.
This award is given annually to authors and composers whose work has inspired and influenced other musicians. With this award, Sandler joins a prestigious group of artists including Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel...
"Adam is a giant of comedy, and many of his funniest moments on screen have been set to music. From Opera Man to The Chanukah Song to Grow Old With You, Sandler's talent for blending humor and music demonstrates how life and love can be both funny and moving. ASCAP is honored to recognize his unique contributions to comedic music," said Paul Williams, ASCAP President.
Adam Sandler has been a member of ASCAP for 33 years and has nearly 450 songs registered with the organization. His compositions range from fun ballads to playful songs.
Since his days on Saturday Night Live, he has become known for songs such as "The Thanksgiving Song", which humorously comments on the American holiday Thanksgiving, "Lunchlady Land", a song about a school cafeteria and a teacher, and "Red Hooded Sweatshirt", a short comedic song with Sandler's signature humor.
Sandler has also performed songs in his films, including "Grow Old With You" from "The Wedding Singer," a romantic ballad that combines humor and emotion, and "Forgetful Lucy" from "50 First Dates," a cheerful song adapted from the film's story.
During his career, he released six albums, three of which were nominated for a Grammy for Best Spoken Word Comedy Album, further confirming his importance in the world of comedy music.
