Every year, lovers of good music, but also of songs that talk about love, get a few new songs on Valentine's Day. This year, February 14th served as the perfect opportunity for many artists to treat their audience to a new single. Among them is Bojan Marović, who immediately on Saturday morning presented the song "Alibi", for which he composed the music himself, while writing the lyrics together with Dragan Milošević Gana. The arrangement was entrusted to Dragan Ivanović, with whom Marović has been collaborating for many years. In an interview with Vijesti, Bojan reveals why he chose this date for "Alibi" and what February 14th means to him:
"Honestly, the song itself found the date. I wanted to release it back in December, but concerts and all the other obligations didn't allow it. The song itself somehow managed to break through and be on the air on that date," he reveals in an interview with "Vijesti".
Love is a subject that has been the subject of countless poems, but far more of them describe sad love than happy love. That's why it can be a challenge to find the right words to describe a love situation from a different perspective. How to convey a familiar emotion in a fresh and authentic way, without falling into clichés, is a question that every author must consider when delving into this universal theme.
"Love is a broad topic that everyone has written about and said a lot about in a beautiful way, both through poetry and music, but again, you find a certain brilliance that allows you to breathe new life into some verses. The challenge is to be a big enough fanatic and dig into your soul, looking for something that will be wildly big and yours, and yet different and equally interesting," Marović believes.
Love is a feeling that we have all experienced at some point, and everyone can recognize it in the songs that describe it. That is why it seems like a “safe bet” for many authors, given that the audience always responds to this topic. Today, however, it seems that we often take love for granted, as something that is taken for granted.
"Love is the bloodstream. We are all created from love. Those people who take it for granted should be avoided," advises Marović.
Although he has recorded many fast songs so far, the ballad "Alibi" brings a completely different arrangement done in a funky style, with the emphasis on the bass guitar. Marović reveals whose idea it was, his or that of arranger Dragan Ivanović:
"Dragan and I started working together a long time ago, he's almost the one who played all the big bass parts in my career. I've been going to his gigs since I was a kid, and I'm proud that I took something special from the groove master and that through a relaxed collaboration we managed to let the music win. I think we showed that we're free and our own. Funk is something I've loved since I was little, I'm happy that I made this another step forward. However, I collaborated on the lyrics with Gana Milošević, also from Kotor, and her ideas were great from the start, and I let some energy happen that refreshed the story, because to be honest, I don't do that very often. However, here we were all on the same path and task."
It is a trend today for songs to have single-word titles that are simple, catchy, and easy to remember. This simplicity allows the audience to immediately feel the essence of the song, while at the same time leaving room for different interpretations and connections to personal experiences. Bojan Marović chose the title “Alibi” for his new single, and on whether that word sums up the entire story and emotion of the song, he says:
"I look at it this way - what matters is the essence of the song, and the whole essence is summed up in that one word - Alibi. Let this song be something that will be a moment for everyone to get the groove moving and for us to all be ready to get moving by summer," concludes Marović.
