Billy Idol expressed great excitement after being officially inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
On Monday, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation announced that the British rock star was among those inducted into the class of 2026 in the performing arts category.
Idol, real name William Brod, will join names such as Phil Collins, Iron Maiden, Joy Division / New Order, Oasis, Shade, the late Luther Vandross and the Wu-Tang Clan.
Following the news, Billy Idol told Billboard that he was extremely happy to receive the award this year, after having been nominated once before.
"It's really exciting. I can't believe it. It's incredible. It's fantastic to think that I started all this out of pure love for the music that we were in during the '70s, the punk rock scene," he said.
"We did it out of love. We had no idea that it would all explode and lead to me doing it for 50 years. It's all incredible and something I could never have imagined at the beginning," admitted Idol.
The author of the hit "White Wedding" emphasized how much this recognition means to him.
"It was fantastic to be part of that musical revolution that we truly believed in and to push the culture forward. It was fun and a dream come true. And this is just the icing on the cake. What an honor! I'm almost speechless. Being chosen by your peers... that's something special," added the 70-year-old musician.
Billy Idol released his ninth studio album, "Dream Into It," in April 2025.
For someone to be eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame, at least 25 years must have passed since the publication of the first commercial edition.
The 2026 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held on November 14 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.
