A stadium in Poland has announced it will cancel a concert by American rapper Kanye West, days after he postponed a performance in France amid renewed controversy over his previous anti-Semitic statements and glorification of Nazism.
"We would like to inform the public that the concert by J.E. (Kanye Vest), planned for June 19, 2026 at the Śląski Stadium, will not take place for formal and legal reasons," stadium director Adam Stiževski said in a statement posted on Facebook.
The decision by the Silesian Stadium in the western city of Chorzow came just over a week after the UK banned the 48-year-old musician from entering the country, where he was scheduled to headline a festival, Reuters reports.
There was no immediate comment from the rapper, who now goes by the name Je. He apologized in January for his behavior, which he attributed to untreated bipolar disorder, and retracted earlier expressions of admiration for Adolf Hitler.
Authorities in Poland have already signaled that they will seek to ban the planned concert on June 19th.
"In a country marked by the history of the Holocaust, we cannot pretend that this is just entertainment," said Polish Culture Minister Marta Cienkowski.
More than 1,1 million people, most of them Jews, were killed at the Auschwitz death camp in Nazi-occupied Poland during World War II. Nazi Germany killed more than three million of the 3,2 million Polish Jews.
Ye was banned from entering Australia last year after he released a song promoting Nazism and advertised swastika T-shirts on his website.
This year he performed in the United States and Mexico City, and new concerts in Europe and Asia are also planned.
