Indie band The Twigs has filed a countersuit against FKA Twigs, claiming she is using her fame and money to "destroy" their trademark.
Singer, actress and dancer Talia Barnett filed a lawsuit earlier this year against the Los Angeles indie group made up of sisters Laura and Linda Goode, asking the court to confirm that her stage name does not infringe on the name used by the band.
The legal dispute between them has been going on for more than ten years. Back in 2014, The Twigs sued Barnett for infringing on a trademark they had been using since 1996. At that time, the band lost and withdrew the lawsuit.
The conflict escalated again in 2024 when the band sent Barnett a pre-suit warning, demanding that she stop using the name after it filed for its own trademark registration.
FKA Twigs then sued the band, claiming they were trying to extort money from her. She offered them $15 so their musical projects could "coexist," but the band refused.
The lawsuit also states that it is "inconceivable" that the public could confuse the two artists, claiming that FKA Twigs has more than 300 million views on YouTube, while the band "simply disappeared."
