Made in New York Jazz Festival has announced its most ambitious program yet for its 11th edition, which will take place in Tivat, Cetinje and Podgorica from June 26 to 28, and will be led by top jazz improviser and multiple Grammy winner John Scofield, and Frank McComb, a multi-instrumentalist, singer and producer known for his collaborations with stars such as Prince, Chaka Khan, Will Smith and others.
Scofield was once a member of Miles Davis' band, and has performed and recorded with legends of the genre such as Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny, Jacko Pastorius, Billy Cobham and others.
Admission to all festival programs will be free, organizers announced.
"The festival, which was declared a project of national importance by the decision of the Ministry of Culture of Montenegro in 2022, with the continuous institutional support of the Ministry of Culture and the Secretariat for Culture of the Capital City, has been positioning Montenegro as a relevant point on the international cultural map for years, not only of jazz music, but also of all contemporary music trends.
This year's edition brings a program expansion and a bold artistic leap forward through six top-notch concert events in three cities, with a carefully crafted blend of global jazz names and regional artists, further solidifying the festival's role as one of the most important cultural platforms in the country," the organizers said in a statement.
Francis McComb's band and John Scofield's trio will perform on Friday, June 26th at Porto Montenegro in Tivat, on the Park Garden stage. A day later, a concert by Super Group Project (the premiere concert promotion of Slaven Ljujić's international project – France / USA / Montenegro) and Rambo Amadeus "Crossover" ft. Alba Nacinovich will be held at the Summer Stage in Cetinje. On Sunday, June 28th, Bobby Sparks II with the band and John Scofield's trio will play on the plateau of the Music Center of Montenegro in Podgorica. All three nights, the program will start at 21 pm.
In addition to the main concert program, the organizers announced that this year the festival is further expanding its artistic space through two street jam session programs in Porto Montenegro and Podgorica, as well as two after party programs in the same cities, where prominent Montenegrin jazz artists and international guests of the festival will perform together, creating an open and spontaneous platform for contemporary jazz dialogue.
As part of the festival content, a half-hour "Making of" documentary film will also be shown in HD format, as a valuable audio-visual record of the previous edition of the festival, the organizers stated.
