Podgorica rapper Ado Radončić, better known as Big Do, recently released a song and video called "Ključni potez" (Key Move), with which he announces his new EP - "Mačku o rep".
Big Do spoke to "Vijesti" about his collaboration with colleague Ronald Maximum, who made the beat for this song, the upcoming EP, filming the video, and future plans.
"The first song from the third studio EP, titled 'Mačku o rep', was recently released, produced by Stefan Pantović, frontman of the band 'Parampaščad', we have been collaborating for many years now and he is responsible for the realization of my projects. There are also the previous two EPs that can be listened to on the 'Studio Stivi' YouTube channel as well as on all music platforms, titled 'Niko kao ja' and 'Adolescencija'," the rapper reminds.
"Specifically, the instrumental for this song was done by Batrić Belojević, better known as Ronaldo Maximum, and the video was directed by Jakov Majstorović Ukov, a rapper from Serbia. Everything is recorded at the 'Stivi' studio in Spuž. The 'Stivi' studio is my second home, I like to say so, because that's how I feel whenever I'm there. The project was supported by PAM (Music Author Rights)," he explained, and then he also referred to the song "Ključni potez" itself.
"'The Key Move' is precisely about the fact that I'm currently in a period of my life where every move is crucial, important, I no longer have as much room for relaxation and freedom as I used to. But I also don't feel any pressure because of it, I already know what I want," he points out.
"Specifically, I have other priorities now than music itself, my desire is just to document, to record what is on my mind at the moment. The goal is not to convey any special message to the listeners, it is essentially for 'my soul', where I just represent myself and use music and writing as an 'exhaust valve' for everyday events, obligations, attitudes, feelings, in general for everything that concerns me or what surrounds me," Big Do continues, and then talks about the collaboration with Ronald Maximum.
"It's not the first time I've collaborated with Ronaldo, he also did the instrumental for the second song, which can be expected in the next few days. I'm also friends with Ronaldo privately, we've collaborated before, we've had joint performances in Podgorica and Nikšić with our Shtulla, so the collaboration with him is completely natural and goes 'like clockwork'," claims the Podgorica rapper, who also reveals that he didn't plan the video for "Ključni potez".
"The song was filmed more or less unplanned. I certainly had in mind making a video for it, but I didn't attach much importance to it. Mostly, it's more important to me that the audio recording turns out to be of good quality, that it's listenable. However, Ukov came to Montenegro for his scheduled projects, among other things, he filmed a video for the song 'Po gradu' where I guested with Đekni with a very cute verse, and I can say that he is a master of his craft," recounts the interviewee of "Vijesti".
"While talking to Ukov, he came up with the idea of making a video for 'Ključni potek', I like it to be simple, natural, without a lot of exaggeration or invention, so we recorded it literally in 5 minutes, so that the song would have at least a slightly better experience," he emphasizes.
When asked why "Ključan potez" was chosen as the first song to be released from the upcoming EP "Mačku o rep", he says:
"With that song, I'm announcing the EP 'Mačku o rep' for no particular reason, it simply forced itself to be released first, which turned out to be a great move in my opinion and I consider it an overture for the rest of the EP."
Big Do also adds that fans of Montenegrin hip hop won't have to wait long for the release of the entire EP.
"The rest of the songs can be expected relatively soon, I will release the songs randomly in consultation with Stego. I don't want to set rules for myself and impose an obligation to release them within a certain deadline. Let it take its course," he concludes and gives a hint of what "Mačku o rep" brings.
"We can expect collaborations with a young funky duo from Podgorica who are currently on the rise, as I like to call it, Džukela and Talja. I have already collaborated with them on the single 'Upaljač', we have also had several joint performances. Among the guests on the EP will be Ronaldo Maximum, of course, with whom I have been planning a joint song for a long time, it just had to finally happen. I am glad to say that in addition to the already mentioned guests, Ukov will also be a guest on the project," he pointed out.
As he says, it is not ruled out that he will film any of the new songs in the near future.
"Videos are always in the plans, it's nice for each song to 'come to life' through a video, but it's not something that's a priority for me. So I wouldn't say anything about whether there will be more videos, we'll see. More on that later," says Big Do, and points out that, given that he likes performing more than working in the studio, he's planning some in the near future.
"Performances are something I love even more than recording, although the creative process has a special charm, performances are something I strive for and enjoy the most. They are definitely in the plans, I will probably organize an EP promotion with selected guests when everything settles down and each song is launched, probably towards the end of the summer, that's an idea for now," he announces.
"In the meantime, I am open and willing to work with festivals that I think should hire local musicians more often, as there are enough of them to create a quality program and keep everyone satisfied. We are not as arrogant and expensive as we seem, we are modest. We know that they bring in more arrogant and expensive artists, who are not part of the Montenegrin scene," the rapper adds with a smile.
"I don't think it makes sense for us to first be recognized somewhere else and then be recognized by our own people, and as things stand, that's what happens. Let them be healthy, that's the most important thing (laughs). Peace out!", says Big Do.
