Almost two decades after his death, Michael Jackson is once again the most popular artist in the United States.
Thanks to the great interest in the biopic "Michael", in which his nephew Jafar Jackson plays the main role, the King of Pop reached the top of the Billboard Artist 100 chart for the first time.
This list ranks the most successful artists in the US based on streaming, radio airplay, album and single sales.
During the week of May 8-14, Jackson's music catalog achieved more than 161 million official streams, while album sales reached 46 thousand copies.
The interest in the film has also led to a major comeback of his songs on the charts around the world. On the latest Billboard Hot 100 chart, six of his songs were among the most listened to: "Billie Jean" is at number 15, "Human Nature" at number 21, "Beat It" at number 29, "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" at number 36, "Dirty Diana" at number 44, while "Rock With You" is at number 47.
Michael Jackson thus became the sixth artist to posthumously reach the top of the Artist 100 chart. Before him, David Bowie, Prince, XXXTentacion, Juice WRLD and Pop Smoke achieved this feat.
Michael Jackson's resurgence in popularity has also affected The Jacksons, who have returned to the Billboard Artist 100 chart and are currently ranked 98th.
