Singer Dafi has announced her first concert in 15 years, marking her return to the stage after a traumatic kidnapping experience that changed her life.
The Welsh musician has not given a full-length performance since 2011, when she retired from public life for reasons she only publicly shared in 2020.
On Friday, she announced via Instagram Stories that she would be performing at a limited-capacity concert at a “secret intimate” location in London on July 5th.
"Nothing would make me happier than if some of you could attend. The capacity is very small, so we'll only be able to choose a few people, but I'm really looking forward to it. I'll also be singing a few new songs," she told her fans.
She has not yet revealed where the concert will take place, but fans have been offered the opportunity to register for a free ticket draw. When registering, they must provide their date of birth, place of residence and contact information.
Everyone who applies will receive an email stating that “winners will be notified via email on June 15th.”
In 2020, Duffy spoke out for the first time about the reasons for her long absence from the music scene, revealing that she was a victim of rape, drugging, and being held captive for several days.
She explained that her recovery took a long time.
"You may wonder why I didn't use my voice to express my pain? I didn't want to show the world the sadness in my eyes. I wondered how I could sing from a heart that was broken. And then, slowly, it stopped being broken," she wrote at the time.
Shortly after, she shared a harrowing account of her experience on her website, calling rape a "weapon of war."
She also encouraged others to speak out about their personal struggles and problems, noting that she felt "liberated" after sharing her story publicly.
That same year, she criticized Netflix for the film "365 Days," accusing the platform of "glamorizing the brutal reality of human trafficking, kidnapping, and rape."
Her life story will be the subject of an upcoming documentary on the Disney+ platform. The film will follow her life from growing up in Wales, through her rise to fame, to her retirement from the public eye, with interviews with family members, friends, and music industry colleagues.
The documentary was announced in March, but a premiere date has not yet been announced.
After signing a record deal in 2007, Dufi achieved great success in 2008 with her debut album “Rockferry”, which was the best-selling album in the United Kingdom that year.
She released her second album, “Endlessly”, in 2010, and returned in 2020 with the singles “Something Beautiful” and “River In The Sky”.
Last month, she posted a photo from the recording studio with the message:
"If only I could find the right words to explain how much I've missed you all. I'm working on getting back to you."
