Tomas Bangalte from Daft Punk has spoken about the possibility of the band reuniting and holding new live shows, making it clear that this will not happen.
The legendary French electronic duo announced their split after 28 years together in 2021. In the years since, both band members have spoken out about why the split was necessary, and Bangalte even admitted that he felt a certain relief after the Daft Punk saga ended.
Earlier this year, the duo marked five years since their breakup by releasing a new video for their 2005 song "Human After All."
The video uses footage from their 2006 science fiction film "Electroma."
In a new interview with The Times , Bangalte explained that he now wants to explore other creative directions outside of Daft Punk.
When asked if he was tempted by the idea of reuniting with Guy Manuel for live concerts, he answered negatively, but expressed satisfaction with the way the band ended its career.
"I'm really happy that over all these years we haven't ruined what we've created," he concluded.
Speaking about his time in Daft Punk, he also referred to the concept of robot characters for which the band was known.
"It was almost a kind of performance art, where you create characters and blur the line between fiction and reality," he explained.
"The history of music is full of successful partnerships, and most of them last much shorter than our 28 years. It was great, but staying in the role and not spoiling the illusion became very difficult," the musician added.
