Billie Joe Armstrong and Travis Barker will assemble a punk supergroup that will pay tribute to The Ramones on the occasion of their 50th anniversary.
Organizers announced Tuesday that the official 50th anniversary celebration of The Ramones will be held on August 30 at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles.
The central event will be the first performance of the Cretin Family, consisting of Green Day frontman Billy Joe Armstrong, Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, Rancid guitarist and singer Tim Armstrong, and former Ramones bassist CJ Ramone.
"The spirit of the Ramones lives on in every backyard punk concert, every punk club and every festival," said Billy J. Armstrong in a statement.
"Generations of weirdos and rebels are becoming fans of the Ramones. Children are under their influence without even realizing it. Long live the Ramones," he added.
Proceeds from the concert will be donated to cancer research led by Dr. David Agus at the Ellison Institute Research Foundation.
The Ramones, who released their debut album in 1976, are considered one of the bands that laid the foundations of the American punk movement, and they toured almost continuously for 22 years.
By 2014, all four original band members had passed away, including singer Joey Ramones.
The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.
