Teddy Swims has released a heartfelt, emotional song about his breakup with the mother of his son. The "Lose Control" singer has channeled the pain of his split from his wife, Raitch Wright, who gave birth to their son in June, into a new song called "Break Up in Reverse." The track is inspired by rapper Nas' 2001 song "Rewind."
Tedi says the song reflects exactly what he's going through right now:
"When I was writing this song and my next album, I was going through a tough time because my relationship with the mother of my child was ending. We loved how Nas told the whole story backwards, so we took that idea and wrote a song about my relationship, and the key message is: 'Say hello to me at the beginning, and love me at the end,'" Swims explained. He previously told fans during a performance at the Stagecoach festival in April that he expected to write songs about fatherhood, not heartbreak. "I'm going through a certain situation with the mother of my child. I have a 10-month-old baby... and he's the sweetest baby in the world. Trying to make music that's not just about being a dad is the hard part, because no one wants to listen to songs about fatherhood," he said at the time. Raič has also spoken openly about the emotional toll of co-parenting after a breakup. She wrote on her Instagram story:
"When I dreamed of becoming a mother and having children, I never imagined my reality would look like this. My heart aches and my stomach is constantly tight with nervousness. My heart goes out to everyone who is going through this or has ever had to go through something similar."
