"Gangnam Style" makes new history

South Korean musician PSY's megahit "Gangnam Style" has become the first K-pop video to reach six billion views on YouTube.

Exactly 14 years after its release, the humorous video packed with recognizable choreography surpassed this impressive figure, becoming the first music video from the K-pop genre to achieve this feat.

PSY is considered the artist who opened the door to K-pop on the world stage, laying the foundation for the global success of artists like BTS, Blackpink, Stray Kids, Seventeen, Twice and many others.

The video, directed by Cho Soo-hyun, shows the South Korean star causing chaos with her signature dance moves. The song peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2012, and "Gangnam Style" was also the first YouTube video to reach one billion views.

This made it the first member of the so-called "Billion View Club", which was later joined by videos such as Justin Bieber's "Baby", Taylor Swift's "Blank Space" and Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You".

In recent years, numerous other K-pop artists have joined this club, including BTS with the songs "Dynamite" and "Butter", as well as Blackpink with the hits "Pink Venom" and "How You Like That".

PSY is still one of the most influential figures in the South Korean music industry today. He owns the record label P Nation and organizes the popular Summer Swag concert tour every year, known for its spectacular performances and energetic atmosphere.
