Although today she is a successful musician and actress, she managed to realize all her dreams and has no equal in the Hollywood world, it was not always like that in the life of Jennifer Lopez. Namely, as a young New Yorker from the Bronx, of Puerto Rican descent, she had a thorny path to success. Now she remembered everything in her documentary.
The new documentary "Halftime" has started on Netflix, in which Jennifer Lopez describes her path to success, recalls the most important parts of her 30-year career, but also those she would rather forget.
The actress, singer and dancer said that her beginning was extremely difficult. She faced brutal criticism from the public, especially on account of her appearance, and above all her figure that did not follow the beauty standards of the time.
"When I started my career, the ideals of beauty were completely different from today's. They wanted tall, very thin blondes. Curves were not valued," she said in the documentary, adding that because of the criticism, she gave up almost everything.
"There were a lot of moments where I just wanted to give up. I had to seriously realize who I am and believe in it," she explained.
She said that she grew up surrounded by fuller women, and that she never wanted to be ashamed of her curves. Then her current fiance, an actor, appeared in the documentary Ben Affleck, with whom she was 20 years ago at the height of her career.
"Ben asked me if so much criticism bothers me and how I deal with everything. I told him that I am Latina and a woman at the same time, and that I expected such treatment," she said.
Lopez was particularly emotional when she recalled her return from maternity leave, at a time when she also became a single mother of her then three-year-old twins. Eme i Pay.
"As an artist, it was very difficult for me to find that part of myself again. I tried to build a perfect life, devoted myself to my children. When they were three years old, I divorced. Therefore, at that moment I was a single mother, with two small children. And you know when you're 42, you don't get offered roles just like that. I don't think I knew my worth back then," she concluded.
As the years went by, Lopez only rose higher on the music charts. She scored several hits, and then her acting career started. Today, her fortune is estimated at 400 million dollars.
