Taylor Swift, one of the most popular singers of today, recently got engaged to NFL star Travis Kelce. And now something has been revealed that has particularly intrigued the region – Travis's mother's side is from Croatia, more precisely from Gorski Kotar.
His great-grandmother Marie Štajduhar was the daughter of Croatian immigrants Juraj Štajduhar and Marija Jurković from the village of Vele Draga in the municipality of Brod Moravice. The family moved to the United States at the beginning of the 20th century, and their descendants today live in Cleveland.
Travis and his brother Jason revealed on their podcast New Heights earlier this year that they had only recently learned about their Croatian roots. Their guest at the time was basketball player Kaitlyn Clark, who described her trip to Croatia, and the brothers excitedly added: “We recently found out that we are Croatian... we didn’t know that. That’s why we were thrilled when you mentioned Croatia.”
The revelation quickly became a hit on social media, with fans jokingly calling Taylor the “Croatian daughter-in-law.” Kels himself has been making fun of his origins lately, saying on the podcast: “We are Croatians, we need sun” and “We are Croatians, we don’t need sunscreen.”
If this famous couple gets married, Swift will, at least through family ties, become a Gorani bride.
