Taylor Momsen is saying goodbye to the acting chapter of her life, which includes starring roles in “Gossip Girl” and the film “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” In an interview with PEOPLE, the 32-year-old musician spoke openly about her decision to focus solely on music and why acting is no longer part of her journey.
"I've learned to never say 'never' in life, because life is too unpredictable, but acting is not something I want to continue," Momsen said.
"I really enjoy life and I love making music. Acting was something from my childhood, and music is what I've always done for myself. There's no character to it," she added.
Momsen explained that in music she has complete freedom and control over her work, which is fundamentally different from acting:
“I don't like being someone else's pawn. I like being in charge. I like writing scripts. I like writing songs. That's all for me.”
She emphasized how much music gives her satisfaction and independence, while acting, in which she is assigned other people's roles and characters, is no longer something she wants to devote herself to.
Momsen is currently focusing on her band The Pretty Reckless, which is touring with the legendary AC/DC this year.
"I think I'm cool with it. I really enjoy life and I love music. It's what I want to do, and it brings me satisfaction," she added.
She rose to fame as a child actress playing Cindy Lou Hu in the film “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” (2000), and from 2007 to 2012 she played Jenny Humphrey in the popular teen series “Gossip Girl,” returning as a guest star in the series finale in 2012.
