Actor Andy Samberg revealed how meeting Jason Momoa inspired the creation of the film "Protecting Jared."
Samberg and Momoa met at an after-party celebrating the 50th anniversary of SNL.
"I had never met him before, and then he picked me up and spun me around like a washcloth. We hugged and laughed," Samberg recalled.
Samberg told this story to his longtime friends and collaborators, writers Rob Klein and John Solomon, who immediately saw the potential for a joint film.
“A week later they told me, ‘We have an idea for a movie for you and Momoa.’ I was thrilled, we invited him, he loved the idea, we pitched it, and Netflix bought the rights,” Samberg said.
According to Production Weekly, the film “Protecting Jared” follows William Ikaika (Momoa), a Hawaiian bodyguard, who must defend himself and Jared Beckman (Samberg), an unpopular tech billionaire, when a dangerous kidnapping plot breaks out.
"It's going to be really fun. I've never done anything quite like this. I think this is going to be a really cool team," Samberg added.
