Kanye West's new apology

Rapper Kanye West, who currently performs under the name Ye, has issued a new public apology following the backlash caused by his announced performance at the Wireless Festival in London.

West was announced last week as the headline act for all three nights of the Finsbury Park festival, where he is set to perform a selection of his "most famous songs." However, the decision has drawn widespread criticism, including from the British Prime Minister, who said it was "deeply concerning" that the rapper had been hired despite his past anti-Semitic statements and controversial views.

Under public pressure, numerous festival sponsors, including Pepsi, Diageo, PayPal and Rockstar Energy, withdrew their support for the event. Festival Republic CEO Melvin Ben condemned West's earlier statements as "disgusting" but also called for forgiveness.

In a new statement, published as a follow-up to his earlier letter to The Wall Street Journal, West said:

"I am following the reactions regarding the Wireless Festival and I want to address them directly. My only goal is to come to London and present a performance that symbolizes change, bringing unity, peace and love through music."

He also added that he wants to personally meet with representatives of the Jewish community in the United Kingdom to hear their views:

"I know that words are not enough - I have to show the changes with actions. If you are open, I am here."

In an earlier letter, West spoke about personal issues, including a four-month manic episode accompanied by paranoia and impulsive behavior, as well as a diagnosis of bipolar 1 disorder. He stated that he deeply regretted his actions and emphasized his commitment to treatment and personal responsibility.

The rapper has been embroiled in controversy since 2022, when he posted a series of anti-Semitic comments on social media, leading to the suspension of his accounts and the termination of collaborations with numerous companies, including Balenciaga and Adidas.

Although he has apologized several times in the meantime, West has at times retracted these statements and continued with controversial posts, which has further damaged his reputation.
