Britain's King Charles III found himself in an awkward situation during a celebration of the 50th anniversary of The King's Trust at London's Royal Albert Hall, when musician Rod Stewart made a comment that many interpreted as a callout of US President Donald Trump.
Stewart, congratulating the King on his recent visit to the United States, said:
"I have to say, kudos to America. You were great. Absolutely great. You put that little bastard in his place."
The king did not visibly react, while those present around them laughed.
Stewart and Trump were on good terms in the early 2010s, when they were neighbors in Palm Beach, Florida. However, the musician said last year that he no longer considered the US president a friend, citing his administration's decisions to sell weapons to Israel.
"How will that war ever end?" Stewart told the Radio Times.
He added that he used to like Trump's "masculinity", but that his attitude towards women had not changed for the better, and that after entering the White House he "became a completely different person".
