A man who broke into a car and stole hard drives containing unreleased Beyonce music has been sentenced to two years in prison, the BBC reports.
Kelvin Evans, 41, pleaded guilty last year to multiple charges, including burglary and trespassing in Atlanta. A judge sentenced him to an additional three years of probation.
Evans, apparently at random, broke into a Jeep rented by Beyonce's choreographer and dancer on July 8th of last year, as her "Cowboy Carter" tour was arriving in Atlanta.
The two returned to find the rear window of the vehicle broken and the luggage missing. To date, investigators have not recovered the hard drives or other stolen items.
Evans reached a plea agreement on Tuesday ahead of the start of his trial, which was due to take place this week, the prosecution confirmed to the BBC.
His lawyer told the judge that his client "hopes for a future where he can earn an honest living and be a part of society like everyone else."
Jury selection in the case began Monday, and prosecutors showed surveillance camera footage showing a red car driven by Evans approaching a rental car in a garage.
Another clip showed the same car arriving at an apartment building, while Evans handled suitcases believed to belong to choreographer Christopher Grant and dancer Diandra Blue.
Grant and Blue told police that two laptops, headphones, luxury clothing and accessories, as well as hard drives that investigators claim contained unreleased Beyoncé material, were stolen from their rental car.
Grant also told authorities that he was carrying “personally sensitive information” belonging to the singer.
The prosecution alleged that the stolen laptops had tracking technology that located the devices at the address seen in the second video.
As part of his sentence, Evans was ordered to stay away from the victims, as well as the parking lot where the theft occurred.
He has been in prison since his arrest in August last year.
The burglary occurred just before Beyoncé began the four-date leg of her Cowboy Carter tour.
