Samsung has responded to a $15 million lawsuit filed against it by musician Dua Lipa, denying the allegations.

Her lawsuit concerned the cardboard packaging of certain televisions of this brand sold during 2025, for which she claimed they used her photograph without payment and without seeking her permission.

In the lawsuit, her legal team said she tried to get Samsung to stop using the photo, but was met with an "indifferent and callous" refusal. They also cited fan posts on the X platform (formerly Twitter), where some users wrote that they were considering buying the TV precisely because the singer's face was on the box.

"I would buy that TV just because Dua Lipa is on it," one user wrote, while another added: "I wasn't even planning on buying a TV, but I saw the box so I decided to get it."

Her lawsuit alleges copyright infringement, violation of California's right of publicity law, violation of a federal law known as the Lanham Act, as well as trademark infringement.

Now, Samsung has responded to the lawsuit and denied the allegations made by the singer known for her song "Dance The Night." In a statement, the company stated:

"A photograph of Dua Lipa was used throughout 2025 to display third-party content available on Samsung TVs. The photograph was originally provided by a content partner for the free streaming service Samsung TV Plus. It was only used after the partner gave express assurances that all necessary rights had been obtained - including for use on retail packaging."

The company added that it has "great respect for Dua Lipa and the artist's intellectual property."

"We have actively sought to reach a constructive resolution with Ms. Dua Lipa's team and remain open to doing so going forward," Samsung added. Dua Lipa's team has not yet publicly responded to Samsung's comments.
