MIA reveals how she was removed from Kid Cudi's tour

Singer and rapper MIA has spoken out about how she was removed from Kid Cudi's tour.

Cuddy, whose real name is Scott Raymond Seguro Mescuddy, announced last month that he had dropped the British singer and rapper from his current “Rebel Ragers” tour. He said he had been “inundated with messages from fans” complaining about statements MIA made during the first two shows of the tour.

MIA subsequently filed a $2,8 million lawsuit against Cadi, claiming that he was aware of her reputation and political views before inviting her on tour. She also alleged that she was told she could say whatever she wanted on stage.

Now MIA has provided additional details of her side of the story on The New York Times' Popcast show, in her first interview since being removed from the tour.

The singer claims she never spoke to Kadi about the decision, although she tried to get in touch with him.

"He didn't even talk to me about it. He didn't call my management, he didn't call me, he didn't talk to the crew, and I even tried to go and talk to him, but he wouldn't see me. It was really crazy. My son said to me, 'Hey, I heard you're not on tour anymore,'" she said.

"That's how I found out, from another state, when my son called me from school. I said, 'What are you talking about?' Then he sent me the announcement," the musician added.

She then accused the media of spreading what she claims is an incorrect story that she is a supporter of Donald Trump and a Republican Party voter.

"That's not what's happening. That's what the media has written is happening. That perception has been created, amplified, and algorithmically pushed to reinforce a certain narrative," she said.

"The narrative is that I'm a brown woman and an immigrant, and no matter what Americans think about it, they can never shake that," she added.

According to earlier reports from the period, the audience booed her in Dallas after she said she was "cancelled for many reasons," adding:

"I never thought I would be canceled because I'm a brown Republican voter."

The Consequence portal also states that she made comments during the performance that some interpreted as statements about immigrants, but the singer later explained that she was actually referring to her song "ILLYGIRL".

Afterwards, Kadi released a statement saying that they had agreed before the performance that there would be no offensive comments during the concerts, and added that he was "very disappointed" to have to remove her from the tour.

"I will not have anyone on my tour who makes offensive comments that upset my fans," he said.

Shortly after, MIA responded to the decision on Network X, partially toning down her earlier statements about the vote. She stated that she had not actually voted because "my team has not received visas yet."
