David Harbour has spoken for the first time about what he calls the "strange" experience of listening to his ex-wife Lily Allen's album, in which she detailed their breakup.
Alena's fifth studio album, "West End Girl," was released last October and was written and recorded in just ten days after her marriage to the "Stranger Things" star ended after she reportedly learned of his infidelity.
The singer described the album as "a mix of fact and fiction" that depicts "the complexity of relationships and how we all deal with them." She also stated that she found inspiration in her "deep-seated issues with rejection and abandonment" following her divorce. She later stressed that she did not consider the album "cruel" nor did she create it out of a desire for revenge.
Harbour has previously been reluctant to talk about the fact that he was the inspiration for much of the album. In a November interview, he briefly said that he would "change everything or nothing," and now, in a new interview with Variety, he has commented on the situation in more detail.
"It was weird," Harbour said of the period when the album was being released.
"I believe that every artist has the right to turn their experience into art, and that's why I respect her for doing it," he added.
"I can't say much more because it's my private life. Despite the fact that many people don't allow me privacy, I value it. I also value the lives of the people I communicate with privately. I'm simply not going to talk about it," the actor points out.
"The stories are complex. That's why I say I respect her making art through personal experience. That, however, was not my experience," he emphasized.
Harbour also revealed in the same interview that he had a "breakdown" at the end of 2025.
"During periods of extreme stress, there can be some unpredictable behavior, and that's unpleasant. I'm ashamed of it. It's not something I choose and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy," the actor said.
