David Foster has denied claims that he ignored his "dear friends" Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, on the red carpet of a recent charity event.
The music producer spoke out after a video from the red carpet went viral, with some media outlets interpreting it as an unpleasant encounter between him, his wife Katharine McPhee, and the royal couple.
Prince Harry and Meghan attended a gala dinner in Victoria, Canada, on August 7, organized to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the David Foster Foundation.
The footage shows the couple posing for photographers on the red carpet as Foster walks towards them. Harry and Meghan appear to acknowledge him, but he continues to walk past them before joining the couple for a group photo with his wife.
Foster rejected claims that he deliberately avoided Harry and Meghan.
"As the host of the David Foster and Friends Foundation event, I had already greeted our friends, the Duke and Duchess, at the entrance ten minutes before meeting them on the red carpet. They both generously took their time and went out of their way to talk to everyone. Harry and Meghan are dear friends of mine. Anyone who watches the footage can see that there was no awkward moment, especially not one of ignoring them," Foster told People.
The Canadian composer explained that he and McPhee simply walked past the royal couple to position themselves on the other side and take a photo together.
"It's sad that some media outlets have decided to deceive people for clicks. They have turned the simple 'positioning' to get the best photo into a painful lie," he added.
