At the beginning, I want to make a distinction between a career and a job. A job is defined by the organization in which an individual is employed and it is something that a person does in the workplace in order to be paid.
Career is a connected, successive sequence of jobs and work experiences of a person during his working life, which follows changes in preferences, attitudes, experience and behavior of individuals.
The last stage is the so-called mature career, the phase of withdrawal and declining activity, although in the first part of this phase the person can contribute a lot to the organization
The individual plans his own career development. If he wants to advance in a certain company, the human resources management service can help him in planning.
Someone will say that today we don't even have the opportunity to get a job, let alone plan career development. It is necessary to have a plan that we want to achieve in the future.
To begin with, it is enough for it to be a plan for a shorter period, so we can change and supplement it in accordance with progress, the situation on the labor market, etc.
The first phase in career development is the phase of introduction to work, the examination of one's own goals, possibilities and strengths, the phase of orientation and learning.
This is followed by a phase of advancement where security and independence in work is gained, progress is made, and thus self-confidence and competence increase.
The third stage in career development represents either a person's need to establish himself in a certain position or a career crisis, where lifestyle, professional goals, etc. are reconsidered.
The last stage is the so-called mature career, the phase of withdrawal and declining activity, although in the first part of this phase the person can contribute a lot to the organization.
As we talk about career development, it seems like it's an upward trajectory.
This is not always the case, and when it is, the individual encounters the so-called career plateau.
Career is a connected, successive sequence of jobs and work experiences of a person during his working life, which follows changes in preferences, attitudes, experience and behavior of individuals.
There are 4 types of plateaus:
- potential plateau - reaching the maximum of development;
- organizationally conditioned plateau - lack of vacant senior positions;
- the plateau of personal choice – individuals who do not want to assume, despite their potential, more responsible managerial positions;
- the fourth type of plateau - employees do not want to work and give lower results than expected.
By carefully planning your career development, choosing the right profession, the organizations you work in, you will give yourself the opportunity to reach the maximum development of your work potential, and it seems that this is the most desirable type of plateau and the only one that does not lead to negative emotions. Work on it.
