For all those who have a dilemma as to whether it is more important to eat right or exercise, a new study claims that what you take in is much more important than how active you are.
A study published in the "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition" explains why nutrition is much more important than exercise, writes N1.
"When it comes to losing weight, analyzes have shown that nutrition plays a much bigger role than exercise," said Filipa Stanford. "Also, exercise burns fewer calories than most people think."
He explains that exercise takes time and constant effort, and it takes more time to see results. There is a lot in our diet rich in sugar, fat and calories that we can give up and see a change in the waist area relatively quickly.
"You have to walk 56 miles to burn 3.500 calories. That's a lot of walking. And one bar of chocolate has, like, 500 calories. It's a lot easier to skip that bar of chocolate than it is to walk five miles."
Science backs up what Stanford says. A large study of more than 3.000 people published a few years ago in the "American Journal of Clinical Nutrition" showed that a diet with fewer calories was more effective in losing weight than exercise.
But exercise is important later. Other studies have shown that people who manage to lose weight are best able to keep it off with regular exercise. In addition, exercise improves mood and helps the body better cope with stress, depression and anxiety, Nedeljnik reports.
