A degree can bring us a better job and a higher salary, but according to a new study by scientists from the University of Oxford and London College, higher education also has a very good effect on health because it reduces the possibility of heart disease.
500 people participated in the research, and according to the scientists, 3,6 years of additional education reduced the risk of coronary diseases among the subjects by one third.
People who had a higher education also had a lower body mass index, a lower level of fat in the blood, and there were a lot of non-smokers among them.
One of the authors of the study, Dr. Julien Vaucher says the results show that part of the link between education and good health can be explained by the fact that many of the respondents were non-smokers, but when other respondents are taken into account, the link is rather mysterious.
"Politicians should find ways to extend education, perhaps by raising awareness of its benefits," this scientist explained.
During the research, the scientists did not focus so much on the length of education but analyzed 162 gene variations that were associated with years of schooling.
Let us remind you that more and more people are dying from heart diseases, and they usually occur when the heart arteries narrow due to the gradual accumulation of fat. Angina and heart attack are the most frequent consequences of such a condition, reports Radio Sarajevo.
