Full pubs on a Friday night are a common sight in Western Europe. A large number of guests are office workers who can't wait for the weekend in order to get drunk on alcohol and forget about stress.

But lately it's been trending that instead of going to the pub, office "mice" go on extreme adventures where they turn into tigers.

Scientists from the University of Cardiff found that employees increasingly choose extreme challenges such as triathlons, obstacle races and adrenaline training, in order to escape from the boring everyday life.

Just as their colleagues seek escape in alcohol, they seek it in great effort and physical pain.

As psychologists explain, such challenges help them to escape from problems, stress and anxiety, as well as to discover their body "trapped" in the office.

Scientists examined participants in a program designed by British special forces, which is so difficult that many end up with serious spinal injuries.

Tasks include swimming through icy water, running in mud, even crawling over 10.000 volt electric pipes.

Nevertheless, employed men point out that they can't wait to take off their suits and ties and throw themselves in the mud, reports Novosti.
