Vivienne Westwood: People have never looked worse

"Badly dressed nation: Everyone looks the same, and clothes have never been uglier," said designer Vivienne Westwood in an interview with the Daily Mail.

In her opinion, many ladies of their age are women of style, but are ignored by the fashion world. The famous creator believes that women in their 70s are the trend, at least when it comes to Great Britain. She says that "people have never looked uglier" when looking at their clothes, and criticizes the rise of "disposable fashion" because it makes everyone look the same.

A wardrobe that supermarkets sell for a few pounds has created an explosion of so-called fast fashion.

"I'm a fashion designer and people often think that I'm too smart, but I'm talking about all that disposable garbage," says the designer who, during the promotion of her Red Label collection, at London Fashion Week stated that the modern era is the worst fashion period ever.

"Throughout history, people dressed much better than we do now. When Queen Elizabeth was younger, she looked incredible, from today's angle as if she came from another planet. She looked so attractive in her wardrobe," he says, stressing that nowadays quantity is important, not quality.

Four times more wardrobe

A recent study showed that every woman in Britain buys a wardrobe that weighs half her weight each year. This means that they have four times more clothes in their closet than ladies had in the 80s.

Celebrity culture was the first to invent the rule that one should not see the same item of clothing twice, and as a result, a new generation of shopaholics appeared. Wholesale stores and Internet sites have made available cheap versions of celebrity clothes that are not usable after a season or even a couple of wears.

Finally, Vivien admits that sometimes she is not even satisfied with her choice:

“I recently said that I don't even like some of my clothes. I love the things I go out in now, but you always have to be careful,” she said.
