Talent and creativity can be shown through several branches of art, and the musician and designer did not want to focus on just one Stefan Djokovic.
And while his performance of Chopin's Revolutionary Etude, for which he shot a video, breaks the record for the number of views on the YouTube service, Stefan is building his career as a fashion designer just as successfully.
When it comes to his musical career, he performed in the world's largest halls such as Carnegie Hall, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Concert Hall, and studied piano and singing in London, New York and Belgrade. But he achieves no less success in the field of design and fashion, where in a short time he conquered domestic and international runways.
He often combines music and fashion, so Chopin's "Nocturne" in C sharp minor was the inspiration for his "Notturno" collection, with which he participated in Milan Fashion Week, and he also has a perfume with the same name.
"Fashion is an art, and as I have always been interested in creation and creative expression, fashion was a logical path when classical music inspires me so much that I want to materialize it in the form of beautiful creations for women. For me, form and essence in fashion are in perfect harmony, and I consider it an exceptional success, but also a feeling for the artist when he sees his work live after its creation. I can hardly describe that feeling when I see a woman in my dress or coat," he told Magazin Đoković about how he became interested in fashion.
The face of his latest collection is an actress Dragana Mićalović. About how the cooperation with her came about and how important it is to have support from public figures, the artist says:
"First of all, I must point out that Dragana Mićalović is an exceptional person and a great professional. As with any other collaboration, it is important that the energy and vision coincide, that she likes what I do and that I like the way she carries out her creative expression. Gaga is a phenomenal actress and great successes are yet to come. And when the time comes, I will always be there to support her as she supports me. Cooperation with all the women who wear my models is extremely important, it is not built overnight and must be nurtured", believes Djokovic, who creates for women because, as he says, it inspires him and gives him space to express his creativity.
"Women's fashion is the most suitable for my expression, perfection is in simplicity, but also in the details that women's fashion abounds in. I'm not saying that I won't try men's fashion, but for now it's still not time for that," Djokovic promises.
His creations are intended for women who have a timeless style.
"My models are worn by women who don't blindly follow trends and whose personality wears dresses, not the other way around. For them, my creations serve to express themselves just as I do", explains the artist who presented his collections at various events in Serbia, but also outside the borders of his country.
"So far, I have also presented my creations in Milan and Dubai. The plan is that, when the situation in the world stabilizes, I will present my collections both in Paris and in New York," he reveals.
Although he claims that the men's collection with his signature will wait, for now the work for the stronger sex is limited to creating costumes that he wears at his own performances.
"It usually happens when the material inspires me or when I can't find what I want in commercial stores. Then I really enjoy it. I also make clothes for my family - for my father, who unfortunately always has to wait his turn, since my female clients are my priority," Đoković points out.
Although he has been active as a fashion designer in recent years, he is primarily a musician. Does music suffer because of this second love of yours?
"Music must never suffer. It is my profession for which I was educated and I set aside at least two hours every day to practice the piano. Practice is the only way to get closer to the perfection that every musician strives for," advises Djokovic, who is not only a pianist. Namely, Stefan is also an opera singer - tenor. When asked what do you prefer - singing or playing, he answers:
"Difficult question. I prefer the piano, but my environment often does not agree with that and insists that I sing as much as possible".
Stefan studied abroad, and the most difficult thing was to choose a suitable academy, or rather professors.
"It was not easy to choose where to study because I am a perfectionist by nature and I only wanted the best. The best professors always support the talents of their students, no matter how many talents they have," notes Đoković, who has a large number of performances behind him.
"When I choose a repertoire, it is important for me to show virtuosity through it. That's why I choose the works of my favorite composers Franz Liszt or Sergei Rachmaninoff. And precisely because they are my favorite, I do my best to make it felt in my performance as well", he does not hide it.
There are talented people in music in Stefano's family, but no one has done the same professionally as him. His grandfather played jazz on the trumpet, and the interviewee of the Magazine says how much affinity he has for this genre:
"Only in the domain of a regular visitor to jazz clubs and a passionate collector of records of that magical genre that is based on improvisation, which is a rarity in classical music," concludes Đoković.
It is important that I feel good in my own skin
In everyday dressing, women in the Balkans often do not differentiate between daytime and evening outfits. Such an understanding of fashion was greatly influenced by the popular series "Sex & City", where the main character is always dressed. What is Stefan's view on "street or everyday fashion", he says:
"The most important thing is that they feel safe and beautiful in those combinations. However they dress, if those clothes give them a sense of extra self-confidence, I support and notice it like everyone else. It's important to follow personal expression and not judge anyone just because they're different and we don't like what they're wearing. You should see the beauty in everything. And as for the series, everything has already been said - a cult achievement that pushed the boundaries of the fashion industry and brought about the emancipation of women and celebrated diversity."
Thanks to this series, many breeders and creators have become popular in our country as well. When asked if he himself prefers to choose branded pieces, or if it is much more important that an item of clothing fits well, he answers:
"It is extremely important to me that my clothes are made of high-quality natural materials with an impeccable cut that, I hope, fit well. It is important that I feel good in my own skin”.
