Sheer dresses and floral embroidery - Dior presents models for autumn/winter

After landing the most prestigious commission of the year - to design pop megastar Taylor Swift's wedding dress - Dior creative director Jonathan Anderson sent shimmering, sheer dresses and pleated, sculptural handbags down the runway at the brand's fall/winter show, held in Paris.

Christian Dior, the flagship brand within the luxury conglomerate LVMH empire, dressed both Swift and her husband Travis Kelce for their wedding in New York on Friday, although photos of the outfits have not yet been released.

Front-row guests at the show, which included actor Josh O'Connor, model Alexa Chung and film director Baz Luhrmann, cooled themselves with black bamboo fans that Dior sent with the invitations, Reuters reported. The show was held in the gardens of the Rodin Museum.

Models walked onto a black reflective runway dotted with large ferns and presented creations that included several pieces made entirely of embroidered silk flowers, exploring Anderson's theme of nature and gardens.

Inspired by the work of American sculptor Linda Benglis, the collection featured four handbags created in collaboration with her. Pleats - a trademark of Benglis' work - appeared on silk chiffon blouses, trousers and jackets, while huge fans of blue tulle were spread across the front of one dress.

Anderson, who was previously the creative director of the Loewe brand, often collaborates with artists, and previously included Benglisa's sculptures in a show for the Spanish fashion house in 2023.

Dior's classic Bar jacket was reinterpreted in fern-colored tweed, with fringes, or in a gray wool pepito pattern, draped in a large bow, while another jacket was entirely embroidered with white silk threads.

Coats were also flowing and roomy, textured and fringed or accented with dramatic pleats and bows. The palette of gray, white and silver was interrupted by bright green and blue tones.

Benglis-inspired handbags were huge and sculptural, crafted in metallic pleats, while shoes were adorned with floral details or pleated metal bows.

The jewelry included pieces made by artisans in Jaipur, India, according to the show notes, Reuters reported.
