The first picking of medicinal plants begins in the Mediterranean coastal areas. In the coastal part of Montenegro, sage is represented, popularly known as pelim, sage or kaduna, laurel, olive, lavender, rosemary, coastal heather, pomegranate...
Sage
It is among the most medicinal plants of the Mediterranean due to its virostatic, antibacterial effect. This plant receives minerals from the karst, so the pelim from Montenegro is among the best in Europe and in the world. The smell of the plant is aromatic, strong and specific. They are harvested at the time of flowering and mainly the leaves are used. I regularly use sage in tea recipes with other medicinal herbs.
It is preventive for serious diseases, including tumors, especially if you start drinking during your teenage years.
Tea for prevention
Usually one tablespoon of sage is put in 2 dl of boiled water and boiled for 3 minutes. Let it cool for 15 minutes, strain and drink during the day in small sips. It is also excellent against sore throat, for rinsing the mouth, reduces sweating, and acts against diarrhea. It is beneficial against flu and menstrual problems.

Laurel or lorber
This tree is widely distributed along the Montenegrin coast. The taste is very aromatic, slightly pungent, spicy, slightly bitter, very high quality, so it is exported to many countries. Laurel was considered a sacred tree, so even during the Roman Empire, military leaders entered cities with a laurel wreath.
It has antiseptic properties, strengthens the appetite, improves digestion, prevents boils in the intestines, expels accumulated gases and is an excellent expectorant. Lately, it has also been used in mild forms of diabetes.
Help from laurel for expectoration and bronchitis
Boil 6-7 bay leaves and a lemon wedge in 2 dl of boiling water. Let it stand for 10 minutes and then strain. It is drunk 2-3 times a day in small sips.
Against rheumatism
Mash the bay leaves in a mortar and cook them in boiling water for about 15 minutes. Strain the resulting juice through cheesecloth and then leave it to cool. The resulting oil that collects on the surface is collected from the top and mixed with a teaspoon of washed lard. Stir to obtain a homogeneous mixture. The cream is stored in a closed jar and applied to washed skin 2-3 times a day. The improvement is felt on the third day.
Sea heather
There are several types of coastal heather with white flowers, with pink/purple and light blue. White is best used in the form of tea, which cleans the intestines, reduces sweating, calms the nerves, is excellent for the kidneys and stimulates sexual drive.
