How many times has it happened to you that something hurts in your stomach, so you ask the people around you "What's here?" Is it appendix, bile, spleen or just gas? Is it a problem due to overeating or an ulcer? The place on your stomach that hurts tells you what it is.
Although appendicitis is usually the first thing on most people's minds when they experience lower abdominal pain, the colon is also a common culprit. Inflammatory bowel diseases or inflammation of the large intestine include two rather simple diseases - ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease, writes Noizz.rs.
Diverticulitis is probably a term that you rarely come across, and it is actually an expansion of the mucous membrane that occurs in the large intestine, and can cause severe pain, especially on the left side of the abdomen.
In order not to guess whether the cause of the pain is an overabundant meal, or something much more serious, check which organ is located in which place. Of course, if it is a recurring pain or if it is so severe that it causes you serious discomfort during the day, it would be best to see a doctor. Most of these things can be successfully treated if diagnosed in time.
"The place of pain does not have to be the place of a pathological process. If you have pain in one place, it does not necessarily mean that the cause of the pain is in that place," explained Radmila Šehić, doctor of the outpatient clinic for adults of the City Institute for Emergency Medical Assistance in Belgrade.
"Under the sternum is the stomach. Below that, a little above the navel, the section of the duodenum. Right under the right rib cage, on the inner side towards the navel, is the gallbladder, and the pain can intensify when touched. If you feel pressure or pain in the waist area, clearly, it is possible that it is a problem with the pancreas. If the pain projects in an arc - from the right over the middle to the left side of the stomach, think of the large intestine. When you feel pain or pressure there, it can be the result of nervousness, poor nutrition or problems with stool. If the pain is present in the right groin area and a strong penetrating pain is felt to the touch or the pain is felt when raising the right leg, it is probably the appendix. Pain in the area of the small pelvis, above the pubic bone, that is, below the navel, indicates on the urinary bladder. In women, this can also indicate a problem with the ovaries, and in men, a problem with the prostate," explained the doctor.
