Lectures on early detection of breast cancer and mental health during and after breast cancer were held at the CUE Podgorica hotel. The event was organized by UNIQA Insurance, The Capital Plaza and Kerber Health Residence. Despite the epidemiological situation and restrictive measures, the response to the lectures was great, which indicates the importance of this topic for society. The fellow citizens present had the opportunity to hear much more about the disease, which annually affects 450 women in Montenegro and is the leading malignancy in the female population.

  • "Early detection of breast cancer can significantly affect the cure of the disease itself. Breast self-examination is very important, which is best done once a month from the fifth to the tenth day of the menstrual cycle."- says Dr. Radomir Rakočević, radiologist and expert associate of the Kerber Health Residence, who adds: "it would be ideal for a woman between the ages of 25 and 40 to have a breast ultrasound twice a year, and after the age of 40 to include a mammogram examination every two years''.

Mental health is as important as physical health - both during the illness and after it.

  • "A person suffering from breast cancer feels helpless and insecure in a given situation. It is up to us to restore her sense of control, belonging, importance and value. This is achieved by talking about feelings, and it has been proven that people who talked about their feelings or were involved in the community of people with cancer went through trauma better., says Jovana Petković-Rojević, psychotherapist and transactional analyst.

After the lecture, which you can watch at UNIQA youtube channel, the organizers awarded prizes to the winners of the raffle. We remind our fellow citizens that until the end of October they have a discount on breast ultrasound examinations at the Kerber Health Residence, and we also urge them to perform examinations in any month during the year.

UNIQA continues in the coming months with socially responsible projects: in November, together with its partners, it will contribute to raising awareness of the importance of preventive examinations in men (marking the month of the fight against prostate cancer), while in December, the largest corporate voluntary blood donation campaign will traditionally be organized.

Think overview more, worry less. Think UNIQA.
