Professor Doctor Omer Devaja, specialist gynecologist and subspecialist surgeon for gynecological oncology, graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad, where he completed his master's studies in 1992. He defended his doctoral dissertation in 2000, as a scholarship holder of the "Stanley Thomas Johnson" foundation for doctoral studies in London, in St. Thomas Hospital - Imperial Cancer Research Foundation (ICRF) laboratories.
Since 2003 he has worked as a specialist gynecologist and subspecialist surgeon for gynecological oncology at the West Kent Cancer Center in Maidstone, UK, where in 2006 he became director of the subspecialty program in gynecological oncology for South East England. In the same year, he became the head of the Gynecological Oncology Department at the West Kent Cancer Center. Since January 2019, he has been the director of specialized surgical branches at Maidstone Hospital.
In addition to classic gynecological operations, the special specialty of the professor is laparoscopic surgery (minimally invasive surgery) in gynecology and gynecological oncology. During the last 20 years, he has performed over 1.000 successful laparoscopic operations, for which he trained professionally in Quebec, Canada. He introduced laparoscopic hysterectomy, laparoscopic radical hysterectomy, laparoscopic pelvic lymphadenectomy at the Oncology Center in England and is one of the pioneers in the development of sentinel gland detection in uterine body and cervical cancer, which he introduced in 2004, and trachelectomy (to preserve fertility in cancer cervix) and surgery for malignant changes on the vulva.
