The previous few days we witnessed tropical temperatures, and a sudden change in the weather. The maximum temperatures ranged up to 36℃, and the worst is at night when you can barely sleep because of the heat. Many people, wanting to cool down, turn on the air conditioners at only 20 degrees, even though it is 15 degrees higher outside, and sometimes the air conditioners work non-stop, reports Today.
Doctors advise that this is not healthy and that the temperature needs to be adjusted so that the difference outside is no more than a few degrees, up to eight at most. However, since the situation is not better even during the evening, many are wondering how to cool down the apartment, and not wake up the next day with stiff muscles, writes net.hr.
Biserka Obradović explained how to cool down the rooms, and explained why it is not good to leave the air conditioner on at night, even though the temperature is unbearable even at that time.
"We cannot sleep with the air conditioner on if it is in the bedroom, but before going to bed it is necessary to cool the rooms, that is, turn on the air conditioner in another room or cool the bedroom if the device is in it, and then turn it off," she said.
"It is important that the air conditioning is cleaned"
Therefore, the air conditioner should not run all night in the room where you sleep, but it is okay if it is in another room, and the cooled air reaches the one where you sleep.
"If we have an air conditioner in our bedroom, then we need to cool down the apartment and then turn off the device, if we happen to fall asleep then we can freeze up, because about 90 percent of such people go to the doctor the next day. All this applies to babies and for chronic patients, but it is very important that the air conditioning is cleaned", explained Obradović.
What many forget and consider an unnecessary item is cleaning the air conditioner, which is very wrong, because an uncleaned air conditioner can cause problems for asthmatics, children and all those sensitive groups, but it can certainly create a problem for a healthy person.
"First, the air conditioner should be cleaned first because there are a lot of bacteria that can cause pneumonia. On the other hand, we must not keep the temperature with a big difference, it should only be a few degrees different. The third thing is that we all like to cool rooms below 20, but that is absolutely not healthy for many reasons. It is not natural cold, if we have a current of air in the bedroom that can affect various parts of the body. Air conditioning is a type of draft, which is a current of air over a small area, so so often muscle inflammation and stiffness occur, because the climate directly affects our body," said Obradović.
The body should be prepared for a sudden rise in temperature
In order to keep the apartment cooler during the day, it is important to cool down the rooms early in the morning and let in as much fresh air as possible. As for the rest of the day, the temperature in the room must not be lower than 22 degrees, and in the evening before going to bed, cool down the rooms and turn off the air conditioner.
"If the temperature in our apartment is below 22 degrees in winter, we call the heating plant, because we think that our heating is not right, and now we cool the rooms down to that temperature. The apartment must be cooled like in the winter period," Obradović pointed out.
Improper use of the air conditioner can cause a number of health problems, which especially applies to sensitive people and cardiovascular patients, and in addition to cardiac problems, we should not forget that facial muscle stiffness and neck pain can occur after the muscles are blocked. in the cold.
That is why doctors remind that the transition from a warm to a cold environment and vice versa should not be done suddenly and advise that when leaving a cooled room, spend a short time in a room that is not cooled so that the body can adapt to the sudden jump in temperature.
"Caution advised to all"
Tomislav Kostić, director of the Clinic for Cardiovascular Diseases of the University Hospital of Niš, says that extreme temperature differences are not good for the cardiovascular system, even for healthy people, and especially for chronic patients.
"Blood vessels react to both cold and heat, by contracting and expanding, we know that low temperatures contract blood vessels, and that they expand in heat. In general, we advise chronic patients not to go outside in the summer months unless they have to from 11 a.m. to 16 p.m. , and in this way they will avoid temperature differences. Although the variations adversely affect chronic patients, it does not necessarily mean that if someone has problems with the heart or cardiovascular system, they will have problems due to temperature differences, but caution is definitely advised for everyone." , stated Kostić.
Even the youngest should be spared from temperature shocks, and this especially applies to babies who are particularly sensitive.
"Babies are a sensitive category, everything that applies to the elderly population and adults also applies to children, just with an increased level of caution. Do not expose them to temperature differences," Kostić pointed out.
