Hormones play a big role in our body. They are involved in the work of metabolism, intestines, brain, influence changes in mood, and are also responsible for the occurrence of heart diseases and even cancer. Over the years, their level naturally declines, which is ultimately felt most precisely in the fifth or sixth decade.
Sex hormones are crucial for both men and women and when they are present at a satisfactory level, it determines our sexual characteristics. With age, biology is inexorable, there is a drop in estrogen, and in men, a drop in testosterone. This leads to numerous changes, such as heat waves, nervousness, irritability, insomnia, depression and a major disruption in relationships of all kinds, not only male-female, and not only in sexuality, but also relationships in the family and at work, she explained. prof. Dr. Svetlana Vujović, member of the World Board of Gynecological Endocrinology, in the Morning Program RTS.
Menopause without discomfort
The goal is that the woman does not feel any transition and that there are no periods of crisis of certain years, because it is only ignorance of hormonal mechanisms, but to enter menopause without discomfort with appropriate therapy, which must be individually dosed, notes Dr. Vujović.
The World Health Organization asked the World Board of Gynecological Endocrinologists to promote the practice in all countries that as soon as women start to miss cycles, to determine the reason and to give therapy, because then these women remain healthy throughout their lives, and can live quality lives and at 80, 90 and 100 years old, says the doctor.
"When you see a woman having a hot flush, you know immediately that she will soon have heart and blood vessel disease if nothing is done. So doing nothing at that age, or believing that it's normal and natural, is like saying 'I'm not going to treat you, I'm waiting for diseases, so I'm going to give you twenty medicines, instead of preventing them from happening'. The point is to prevent negative consequences", emphasizes Dr. Svetlana Vujović.

If the therapy was applied on time, the working capacity of the population would be significantly increased, so it would not matter whether someone is 30, 50 or 70 years old. The latest studies done in the world suggest that women who do not use anything when they enter menopause gain about five to eight kilograms without making any changes in their diet and activity.
In addition, certain groups of hormones are cancer triggers in people with a genetic predisposition, and in conditions of low sex hormone levels, many patients develop various forms of cancer precisely because of this.
"When we compensate for what is not there, which is the principle of endocrinology, that only hormones are brought into order, a woman is protected and lives better, and various diseases, even cancers, are prevented," added Dr. Vujović.
Problems of declining sex hormone levels occur equally in men. The level of testosterone in men decreases from the age of forty by about one percent per year. Not everyone ages the same, but the drop in testosterone leads to the same problems as in women.
That's why even men should not hide and ignore their problems, but face them and react in time, because with a small change in lifestyle habits, diet and activities, they can feel the same as when they were thirty years old, Professor Vujović notes. .
Vitamin D – vitamin and hormone
In addition to sex hormones, in recent years there has been a lot of talk about the lack of vitamin D. As Professor Svetlana Vujović emphasizes, the world view is that vitamin D is not only a vitamin, but also a hormone that affects numerous factors, not only bones, as almost thought.
"It also affects the autoimmune response so that some autoimmune diseases do not appear. It also affects the cardiovascular system. The lack of vitamin D is a consequence of the fact that we cannot take in the necessary amount of it with food, and we live in a climate where there is no sun all year round.
"On the other hand, sunbathing is not recommended because of all the inconveniences that result from sunbathing, and going to the solarium is the worst solution, because it is mistreatment of the cells that are responsible for the production of the necessary substances. "Vitamin D can easily be replaced with drops or tablets, and it is important that it is within the normal range," notes Dr. Vujović.
She points out that it is important to understand the importance of this topic and to educate doctors, because in this way huge funds will be saved that would be spent on treating the consequences of non-response.
