Although there is no diet that can keep migraines under control, there are still some foods that affect the worsening of symptoms, so those who suffer from migraines should avoid them, writes the American portal NBC.
According to physician and headache specialist Fred Cohen, certain types of foods are known to exacerbate migraine symptoms, and Cohen has listed them over the years based on conversations with his patients.
Cohen then, with colleague and neurologist Edmond Ahdoot, tested the effect of such foods on migraine symptoms and made a list of foods that patients should avoid.
Citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons, limes and grapefruit are in first place, and artificial sweeteners such as aspartame and sucralose, mainly present in diet juices, are in second place.

Food rich in tyramine is also problematic for migraine symptoms, which, when there is too much of it in the body, leads to a hypertensive crisis and a severe migraine attack. These foods usually include meat, fermented foods, smoked fish, and some types of legumes, and onions can also trigger migraines.
That's why Cohen advises his patients who suffer from migraines to pay attention to their diet, keep a headache diary and try to identify triggers.
"It's the only way we can find the real trigger," says Cohen, adding that there is no universally specific food that causes headaches.
"Sometimes the trigger doesn't lie in the food at all, for example, for me personally, the trigger is flying," reveals this doctor.
