There is much that our mother has given us during our lifetime without us even realizing it – including our intelligence, if scientific research is to be believed.

Women have XX chromosomes, while men have XY chromosomes. Chromosomes are like hard drives in our cells that pass our genes to our offspring. According to a recent study, our intelligence comes directly from the all-important X chromosomes. Since our mothers have two of these chromosomes, the likelihood that intelligence is inherited from our mother is twice as high, reports Zadovoljna.rs.

What about the father's contribution?

The same study shows that the XY chromosomes, which we receive from the father, are responsible for the physical aspects of the child.

It's not just chromosomes that are key

However, the mother's chromosomes are not the only factor that helps children become more intelligent. It is known that a close bond and maternal love significantly influence brain development.

"The importance of emotional relationships for brain development has been proven by researchers at the University of Washington, who found that secure attachment and maternal love are crucial for the growth of certain parts of the body, including the brain."

These researchers analyzed the relationship between mothers and their children for seven years and found that the hippocampus of 13-year-old children whose mothers provided emotional support and intellectual stimulation was 10 percent larger compared to children whose mothers were emotionally cold.

"The hippocampus is a part of the brain associated with memory, learning and stress responses."
