We bring you a few tips and ideas on how to keep your apartment smelling fresh, without excessive chemicals and effort, with a long-lasting effect.
Natural sources of freshness: plants that purify the air
Choose plants that not only beautify the space, but also purify the air and release a gentle scent.
- lavender - soothes and spreads a pleasant scent;
- eucalyptus - refreshes the space and has an antibacterial effect;
- Aloe vera and spathiphyllum - purify the air from toxins, without an intense odor.
Advice: Occasionally rub a lavender or eucalyptus leaf with your fingers to release more of the scent.
Real scents, not masking: essential oils and diffusers
Use an essential oil diffuser - it's an elegant, quiet and natural way to make your home smell fresh.
Recommended oils:
- lemon and grapefruit – for energy and purity
- lavender – for relaxation
- teapot - for disinfection
- a combination of peppermint and citrus - most effective for a "clean" feeling
Advice: Put a few drops of oil on a damp cloth you use to mop the floors.
Fabrics and textiles as carriers of freshness
Curtains, sofas, pillows and carpets retain odors. Air them out regularly and spray them with mild sprays based on water and essential oils.
You can also make a homemade air freshener:
- a cup of water
- 2 tablespoons alcohol or vodka
- 10–15 drops of essential oil
Put it in a spray bottle and use it on curtains, armchairs, pillows, etc.
Odor absorbers (cheap and effective)
Baking soda: in an open jar in the bathroom, kitchen, and near the garbage can.
Bamboo charcoal: an elegant and long-lasting odor absorber.
Coffee beans: in a bowl on the table, they neutralize kitchen odors.
Advice: Add a few drops of vanilla or cinnamon to a bowl of baking soda in the living room – a gentle homey scent.
Ventilation for a reason
A short and intense draft 2-3 times a day is better than a constantly open window.
Ideal: open the windows in the morning and early evening, for 5 to 10 minutes.
Scent zones
Make "fragrant dots":
Next to the entrance door: lavender in a jar or a plate with dried citrus and cloves.
In the closets: soap in a paper wrapper or sachets with dried herbs.
In bathroom: natural soaps, eucalyptus hanging in the shower (when there is steam – it releases the scent).
