On Monday, May 18th, by 15 pm, choose your "sweet favorite" - the cake that, in your opinion, deserves to enter the grand finale and win one of the valuable prizes.
Vijesti launched a competition for the best cake in Montenegro under the slogan "20 years - one taste", which celebrates the combination of tradition, identity and contemporary flavors of Montenegro through creativity.
The goal of the competition is to showcase the richness of different parts of the country – from the coast and Boka Bay, through the central part, to the north and mountainous regions – as well as the personal stories, memories and inspirations of the authors.
The competition is still open and you can send in entries for a few more days, until May 18. You can see the submitted cakes on our Instagram profile Vijesti and vote for your favorite, whether it was submitted through the first or second wave of entries of sweet flavors of Montenegro.
Our contestants brought so many beautiful stories and details, so below we present their cakes for you to vote for in the first wave of applications received on our Instagram post-
1. Orien soul - @trnova_ruzicaaa (Andjela Vujović)
She found inspiration in Orijen — a place where the sea, mountains, and forests meet. The base is reminiscent of our long sandy beaches, the filling is reminiscent of the mountains, and the fruit is reminiscent of our untouched forests.
2. Mountain Villa Cake - @milicina_slatka_kuhinjica (Milena Otović)
Each layer of this cake hides a landscape of Montenegro. The crunchy hazelnut crust is reminiscent of the forests of the north, where the scent of earth and wood lingers in the air long after the rain. The yellow filling, rich and warm, carries the color of the sun illuminating stone houses and old streets, while the white layer, delicate and light, evokes mornings at sea – the foam of the waves and the peace that comes from the open sea.
3. Budva Dragon Cake – Bozena Jelusic
It connects the gastronomy, mythology and historical identity of Budva and Montenegro. There is nothing exotic about this cake; its ingredients grow along the stone and the sea. The Dragon cake with almonds naturally belongs to the Montenegrin coast. The Dragon cake can become a recognizable gastronomic symbol of Montenegro because it combines the Mediterranean landscape, local memory and the idea of the duration and renewal of life.

5. Chocolate cake with blueberries - @bakehouse.pg (Ksenija Strugar)
The combination of dark chocolate and blueberries represents Montenegro in one bite - strong, wild and beautiful. Blueberries as a symbol of the Montenegrin north, and dark chocolate as the strength and mysticism of our mountains. This cake is my little story about the land of contrasts - warm and harsh, gentle and proud, Montenegro.
6. Mountain hug - @detaljzivota (Renata Rakočević)
Between the scents of childhood and the timeless beauty of the present, Gorski zagrijaj was created to remind us of the strength of our homeland.
7. Montenegrin - @kuvajzame (Vanja Rajković Bojanić)
Neither ornate nor glamorous, but it carries what is most important - scents and flavors that quietly conquer, and stay for a long time. First, Bar touches you through the scent of oranges, then the magic of chocolate takes you to Boka Kotorska, where the sea whispers, and the carob tree evokes ancient stories. It is as if sea fairies are playing with you. Then the mountain fairies lift you over Lovćen all the way to the fig trees from the gardens of Podgorica, and the mountain fairies pull you further towards the katuns and pastures in the north, where homemade butter rounds off the story of a small, but infinitely rich country.

8. Tastes of Montenegro – Vesna Komatina

This cake is designed as an edible homage to the wild beauty of Montenegro—a land where raw stone meets the finest fruits of nature.
2. Montenegrin @podgorica_torte_kolaci
"Crnogorka" was created in the search for an authentic Montenegrin cake. In it, we combined the traditional flavors of old Montenegrin cakes with modern details. We connected the tradition of the north, where berry cakes were made, and the coast, where walnut cakes were prepared for festive occasions. We decorated the cake in a modern style, while maintaining the spirit of old local recipes.
3. Luca, Iva Radunovic
The Luča cake was created as a tribute to Montenegro — a land of strong contrasts, where the sea meets the mountains, and the stone preserves the warmth of the sun and memories. The inspiration came from flavors deeply woven into our climate and tradition: walnuts, figs, honey, wild blueberries, grape brandy, and plum brandy.
4. Baklava, Alma Adzovic
A combination of crunch, juiciness, and authentic flavor that reminds us of the warmth of home and our heritage. A sweet snack that celebrates tradition.
5. ĐEKNIN'S SWEETS @fabrika_ukusa
ĐEKNIN SLATKIŠ carries the message that jokes between people should remain a part of our tradition and always bring smiles and positive energy. Regardless of all our differences, habits and jokes, we should always preserve unity, love for our people and country and the spirit that unites us. Because harmony, smiles and togetherness are the most beautiful and sweetest taste of Montenegro.
6. CAKE WITH WALNUTS @mak_domaci_kolaki
This cake is a true old-fashioned homemade cake - simple in ingredients but rich in flavor and texture. The recipe is over 70 years old. Soft, juicy and full of homemade flavor, with a rich aroma of walnuts, butter and chocolate. No modern "heavy" creams or decorations, but the warmth and fullness of recipes that have been passed down for generations.
7. Iskra @slatkisaraa
The Iskra cake was created from the image of an old Montenegrin house — stone, quiet and full of warmth. A home where guests were always welcomed with honey, nuts and a full table, even when there wasn't much to offer.
8. "BLACK MOUNTAIN" @traveza.me
According to legend, as the Venetians approached our coast by ship, the dense dark forests on the mountains looked almost black, so they named the area "Monte Negro" - which in Italian means "Black Mountain" or "Montenegro". The poppy flower, which symbolizes the memory of fallen soldiers, is an indispensable part of the decoration, chosen as a sign of respect for the heroes of the fight against fascism and all those on whom this country rests today.
9. WHITE BREAST @torte_mali.slatkizalogaj
White lump - the taste of karst and silk. Karst woven into a walnut as a reflection of strength. Silky white cream with a silky glaze from Vranac. The cake is my dedication to the Montenegrin climate. This cake is not just a dessert, but a story about a land where stone and rocks blend with the finest silk.

This cake is not just about flavors - it is woven with Montenegro as we carry it within us. Walnuts and honey preserve the warmth of the central part, the scent of home that always finds us, even when we are far away. They are the hands that embrace, the tables around which we gather, and the silence that means safety.
Citruses whisper about the coast - about the sun caressing the skin, about the scent of the sea and those light, carefree days that remain with us as the most tender memories.
Forest fruits bring the breath of the north, the freshness of the mountains, and moments when we stop and feel how big nature is, and how small we are - but our own.

This cake is not just a dessert — it is our experience of Montenegro. A land where the power of the mountains meets the calm of the sea. A land of pride, character and strong contrasts — stone and sea, north and south, tradition and elegance. Every detail on this cake is carefully crafted to tell that story.
From the mountain peaks and mausoleums on Lovćen, as symbols of duration and dignity, through the traditional Montenegrin costume that speaks of identity and roots, to the richness of the coast — the sea, olives, figs, pomegranates and Sveti Stefan — a symbol of the Mediterranean spirit and lasting beauty. This cake is the result of shared energy, vision and love for what we represent. It conveys the strength of Montenegro — not only its beauty, but also its character.
3. Bank @sweet_zalogajiii
The cake is designed as a delicious map of Montenegro, in which each layer tells a story about a part of it. Lemon from the south brings the freshness of the sea and the warmth of sunny days. Blueberries from the north bring the scent of forests, the tranquility of nature and the strength of the mountains. Walnuts give fullness of flavor and the warmth of local tradition. The cake is covered with a delicate white layer that is reminiscent of the snowy peaks of the Montenegrin mountains, giving it the appearance of a winter fairy tale and additional symbolism of the natural beauty of our country. Combined into a single whole, these flavors create a harmony of opposites and remind us of the togetherness that makes Montenegro special.
4. The Road to Independence @small_cakes_blue
The cake "The Path of Independence" symbolically represents the twenty-year journey of Montenegro from the restoration of independence on May 21, 2006 to the jubilee in 2026. The stepped shape depicts the flow of time, the ups and downs, the duration and development of the state through two decades of freedom and identity. The red and gold shades are infused with the colors of the Montenegrin flag and represent pride, dignity, strength and the festive spirit of the jubilee. Hand-made details give the cake authenticity and warmth, while the overall appearance combines the symbolism of the state with the art of pastry making.
5. Guardians of tradition @ischoolmasa
"Guardians of Tradition" is a cake designed by children inspired by the nature, colors and flavors of Montenegro. The combination of walnuts, dried figs and raisins represents the warmth of home and the traditional flavors of our region, while lemon and orange bring the freshness of the sea and the Mediterranean climate. Raspberry brings color, tenderness and childish playfulness, symbolizing the joy of growing up. The cake decoration depicts Montenegro through snow-capped mountains, the blue sea and golden walnuts as a symbol of the richness of nature, strength and warmth of home. Through this cake, the children presented Montenegro as they see it - beautiful, proud, diverse and full of life.
6. Hard walnut, strange fruit @sweet.muffin
This is a cake that, with a fraction of its name, reminds us of Montenegro, its history, that one famous verse that every resident will recognize. It is made of soft crusts whose main ingredient is walnut, which are covered with chocolate for a crunch that matches the cake's name.

I fell in love with every stone of this land, but also with this sea of ours that embraces Bar. I fell in love with the customs, the tradition, and the deep respect for roots. Here, roots are not just a word - they are sacred.
The question of "where are you from and where are you from" is the measure of a person here. Because who are we without roots, without tradition, and without the taste that unites all of that into one: love for family, memories of childhood, togetherness, and belonging.
This cake is my ode to that belonging. When all those layers come together in one spoonful, you feel the sweetness, the freshness, the crunch and... you understand. All those flavors, that's actually - Montenegro. Powerful, proud, and infinitely warm and gentle.

"Sweet Independent" is a cake that connects the Montenegrin mountains and the sea in one bite - the snowy peaks guard the deep blue of the Adriatic, just as brave people guard their freedom.
The golden map of Montenegro marked XX recalls May 21, 2006, when the people voted in a referendum to restore the country to its former glory, and in 2026, the country will celebrate twenty years of renewed independence. Blueberries, walnuts, figs, and olives represent gifts from the north to the coast, while the scent of spruce evokes our forests – that's why this cake is Montenegrin, proud and independent, but above all, sweet.

When I think of Montenegro, my association is our Montenegrin hat, and as for the cake, PATIŠPANJ - which gets stuck in my throat - but it's ours 😃
As we know, the cap is an indispensable part of the Montenegrin costume, and the patišpanj was a welcome cake.
Hazelnuts are not exactly a symbol of historical Montenegro, but wherever I go I see that very easily recognizable hazel bush tree.
Raspberry cultivation has become more of a part of modern Montenegro in the last 20 years or so.
So all of that, combined with the finish of our crystallized honey, led to this blend of taste and appearance.

23 years ago, far from Montenegro, in a special Asian country, and on a special mission, my "Montenegro" was created. It wasn't just a treat - it was the smell of home, a memory of our lands, and a little piece of my heart that I took with me.
When I first made it, our people felt in every bite the warmth of home and the sweetness we were used to, which was not there.
But what really touched me was the enthusiasm of everyone else who had the chance to try it. Regardless of language and culture, the smile after the first bite was the same - I left the recipe to that unforgettable country, as a sign of gratitude and a memory of a time I will never forget. We found inspiration for the decoration of this cake in the richness and diversity of our country's nature. We combined the blue of the sea, rugged rocks and dense forests, and on top we added a part of our culture. As for the taste, we tried to feel the true taste of the north through a traditional chocolate cake with the addition of walnuts and a slightly more modern ingredient, hazelnuts.
2. Basket of Love - Irma Hasani
We cannot take Montenegro outside the country, but we can spread the flavors and memories to the whole world and tell what kind of nature and flavors we have as a combination of an irresistible tradition. All those beautiful moments can fit into a basket of memories and flavors, and at the same time enjoy the enchanting view with a basket of love.
3. Montenegrin ruby – Montenegrin @chocolate_lover
The "Montenegrin Ruby - Montenegrin" cake was created as a gastronomic interpretation of Montenegro — a land of stone, sun and contrast, where the harshness of the karst and the richness of the fruits merge into a unique identity, as well as an expression of freedom of design through gastronomy. The inspiration for this cake came from the desire to show the essence of the Montenegrin space through dessert — its character, strength and natural balance between the mountain and Mediterranean environment.
4. Where Lovćen descends to the sea - @macherie_porto
"Where Lovćen Falls to the Sea" represents Montenegro through the combination of its strength, tradition and natural splendor - from rocky peaks, through green slopes, to the blue of the Adriatic. Inspired by Independence Day, this cake symbolizes the freedom, steadfastness and unity of a country where mountains descend to the sea, just as history, culture and nature merge into one.
How to participate and vote
Applications for the competition are still open. Anyone interested can send their application with a description of the cake and contact information to our email lifestyle@vijesti.me or via Instagram.
The first cakes have already entered the public vote conducted on the Vijesti Instagram account, where the audience chooses their favorites.
There is great interest, and the presentation of the next group of submitted cakes and a new round of voting will follow soon.
It is you, our loyal audience, who will decide by voting on Instagram which five cakes will go to the grand finale, which will be held on May 20th on the show Boje jutra, where an expert jury will taste the cakes live and choose the winner.
The winning cake will receive special recognition — it will be served at the opening of the Aman Hotel in Sveti Stefan, as the first sweet treat to welcome guests after years of hiatus.
While the winner will also receive a prize worth 1.000 euros from Adriatic Properties and a weekend for two in Hyatt Regency Kotor Bay Resort-u Other finalists also await valuable prizes:
- weekend with breakfast for two at Hotel Wulfenia in Kolašin
- weekend with breakfast for two at Hotel Krušo in Herceg Novi
- education in Inova Gastro Academy
- day on The Chedi beach, or use of a cabana at The Rock, and a golf lesson at Lustica bay
Two additional awards will be given for authenticity and virality — for those stories that stand out, even if they don't make it to the finals. They will receive vouchers provided by Organic by Cosmetics worth €150 each.
