Men rarely miss opportunities for casual sex, and often regret it if they miss a good opportunity. Women, when they jump into a sexual adventure, have a feeling of regret. Research conducted at the American University of UCLA, as reported by Men's Health magazine, tried to explain this male-female difference.
"From an evolutionary perspective, for men, every missed opportunity to have sex with a new partner is a missed reproductive opportunity. But women view reproduction differently than men. Women have to invest more in their offspring, including the nine months of pregnancy, as well as the extra years of breastfeeding. Therefore, the consequences of 'casual' sex are greater for a woman than for a man, and this female tension is transferred to sexual relationships", says the author of the study Marit Haselton.
