We all know about female menopause, however, with age, hormone levels in the body begin to change in men as well. But while in women these changes are obvious, they say that in men there are not many visible signs.
According to some research, every third man over the age of 60 suffers from a decrease in testosterone secretion. The word is a phenomenon that is professionally called hypogonadism.
Professor Srđan Popović, endocrinologist of the Clinical Center of Serbia, explained earlier to N1 that it manifests itself in men at different ages - some at 50, some at 60. Symptoms can be chronic fatigue, lethargy, muscle weakness, weakness, loss of strength and energy...
The testosterone level drops and we see that the body shuts down a bit, he says. That's why you need to check testosterone, but also thyroid hormones.
The doctor says that the prelude lasts for several months, and the first alarms that something is happening are the absence of a morning erection and inadequate sexual function - sliding towards erectile dysfunction.
"More and more young people are coming to us, young bodybuilders who have disfigured themselves... They want everything instant and everything fast, and they apply some kind of protein that must have everything in it - corticosteroids, various hormones, testosterone, even growth hormone," says the doctor, adding that because of the acceptable prices, young people get "hooked" on these substances.
When they stop doing it, the testicles shrink and even azoospermia occurs, the doctor says.
Azoospermia, by the way, is a common cause of sterility in men, and is characterized by the complete absence of spermatozoa in the ejaculate. Studies have shown that five percent of men who have fertility problems actually have azoospermia.
Speaking about other problems related to taking protein, the doctor emphasized that the young men who use them not only have large muscle mass, but their hearts and kidneys are also enlarged.
The addition of hormones has various consequences – corticosteroids lead to fat mobilization, to osteoporosis, they can cause steroid diabetes, the doctor enumerated.
