Jugopetrol has started three projects that represent a significant step towards a sustainable and environmentally responsible future. The goal of the planned activities is to reduce CO2 and gasoline vapor emissions, as well as protect the environment, thereby confirming the company's commitment to sustainability and innovation in the energy sector. The environmental projects include the installation of solar panels at gas stations in Podgorica at four locations and one in Budva, the installation of electric vehicle chargers at key locations across the country, and the reconstruction and installation of a vapor recovery device at the terminal in Bar.
"In addition to the installation of solar panels at five gas stations this year, the plan is to install seven more by the end of 2025, including the first gas station on the highway. It is expected that solar energy production at existing locations will reduce CO2 emissions by 192 tons per year. Also, by the end of the year, Jugopetrol will have a total of seven 50 kW fast chargers, compatible with all electric vehicles, thereby improving EV infrastructure and contributing to environmental protection," said Vasilis Panagopoulos, CEO of Jugopetrol.
Electric vehicle chargers have already been installed at gas stations in Podgorica (at three locations), Bijelo Polje and Tivat. In the coming period, chargers will also be installed in Žabljak and Herceg Novi, ensuring coverage of the entire country.
"In addition to installing four more electric vehicle chargers across Montenegro in 2025, Jugopetrol plans to reconstruct and install a vapor recovery facility at the terminal in Bar. This initiative represents not only a step towards energy efficiency and a greener future, but also a positive example of socially responsible and efficient corporate activities," added Vasilis Panagopoulos.
The CEO of Jugopetrol explained that the ecological project of reconstruction of the existing fuel terminal in Bar is estimated to cost the company around 9 million euros. The project relies on advanced technologies, which have already proven effective in Europe and the region. The construction of a facility for underground filling of tanker trucks with three docking stations is planned.
In addition, the existing fuel pumping station will be reconstructed, with new, modern pumps that will improve filling efficiency, especially during times of increased demand.
A gasoline vapor recovery facility will be installed near the gas station. The goal of this facility is to fully collect and process harmful gasoline vapors throughout the entire distribution process, not only within Jugopetrol but also for all its clients, thereby further reducing the environmental footprint and improving air quality. The completion of this project will enable more efficient service and pollution reduction not only in the municipality of Bar, but also at the national level, by modernizing existing capacities and implementing new technological solutions for the recovery and treatment of gasoline vapors.
"The treatment systems that protect the sea in Bar have been operating efficiently for years, and Jugopetrol remains committed to developing sustainable solutions and implementing the highest environmental protection standards, in accordance with environmental regulations and requirements," said Panagopoulos.
Jugopetrol Company supports various social initiatives across Montenegro with special attention, covering a wide range of areas such as education, healthcare and sports, with investments exceeding 2,5 million euros. These comprehensive efforts collectively contribute to the holistic development and well-being of communities, teams and individuals across Montenegro, leading towards a sustainable, strong and socially responsible future.
"The company is a reliable investor in the country, with significant investments exceeding 75 million euros since 2003. The company is committed to expanding and improving its capacities, aligning with the latest technological developments and industry standards, ensuring continuous supply of high-quality products to the market," recalled Jugopetrol CEO Vasilis Panagopoulos.
