At the Science and Technology Park, Crnogorski Telekom demonstrated the most advanced network technologies that are shaping the global digital future – WiFi 7 and 50GPON, achieving speeds of up to 20 Gbps. This has brought Montenegro into the circle of the most advanced EU countries that are testing or in the process of introducing this technology.

Stjepan Udovicic, CEO of Crnogorski Telekom, emphasized the strategic importance of these investments, not only in the telecommunications, but also in the broader economic context – as a strong impulse to the domestic economy and business environment.

"Speed is not an end in itself – it is the basis for the development of new services, digital industries and a competitive economy. Telekom invests in technologies that are currently available only in the most developed European countries, because we believe that Montenegro must be an equal digital player. Investing in network infrastructure is not just a technological issue – it is a reputational element and an important support for foreign investment."

In real-world conditions, speeds of over 4 Gbps were tested on a WiFi 7 network, while 50GPON enabled throughput of up to 20 Gbps – which is many times higher than currently commercially available speeds. The new network architecture delivers not only higher speeds, but also ultra-low latency, mass device connectivity capabilities, and backward compatibility – enabling a smooth transition to new services.

Dusan Banović, Director of the Service Development and Digital Transformation Sector, emphasized the broader economic and development context:

"Speeds mean nothing without their application. Today, we are talking about networks that are up to 100.000 times faster than those we started with 28 years ago – this is not just a technological advance, it is the foundation of a new digital economy. Technologies like 50GPON do not only serve end users; they enable a whole range of advanced digital services – from artificial intelligence and cloud solutions, to IoT networks, industrial automation and smart cities. Without such infrastructure, these services remain unattainable or ineffective. According to research by the World Bank, a 10% increase in broadband penetration leads to an average increase in GDP of 1,38%. This data shows that investing in the network is not just a technological issue – it is a development strategy."

Over the past three years, Telekom has invested more than 57 million euros in the modernization of its mobile and fixed networks, not counting the additional costs for spectrum lease. This gave Montenegro a strong infrastructure foundation for the next level of digital transformation.

Predrag Perković, Director of the Commercial Sector, concluded: "In a few years, we will also be talking about WiFi 7 as a standard. While today I would not just talk about a technological breakthrough - this is Telekom's strategic decision to make Montenegro among the first in Europe when it comes to next-generation networks."

A special focus at the event was on gaming – Crnogorski Telekom announced a partnership with the Electronic Sports Association of Montenegro, which will include a number of joint activities, including support Montenegro Future Festival, one of the largest gaming events in the region.

Filip Šoć, the president of the Alliance, said:

"Telekom has recognized e-sports as a serious segment of the digital economy. Today, as much as 70% of gaming takes place via mobile devices – which is why fast and stable connections are key prerequisites. The advanced infrastructure, whose performance was demonstrated today, enables the organization of large tournaments and positions Montenegro as an attractive destination for the development of the gaming scene and IT industry. Together we can open doors to new careers and digital education for young generations."

Important actors in the implementation of this project, as well as demonstrators of network capacities during the interactive part of the event, were representatives of the expert teams of Crnogorski Telekom:

  • Radovan Vukotic, Head of the IP, Transport Networks and Service Platforms Department,
  • Igor Stankovic, Head of Contact Center Department,
  • Marjan Popović, Head of Multimedia Services Department,
  • Arslan Metjahic, a leading specialist in access IP broadband networks.

The Science and Technology Park, where the ultra-fast Telekom network was demonstrated, is also the first location in Montenegro where this technology was implemented.

Crnogorski Telekom's focus remains on developing a fixed and mobile network that is reliable, fast and ready for the challenges of a modern digital society - from individual users, through businesses, to entire industries that rely on ultra-fast connectivity and the application of advanced digital solutions.
