Every year, on June 18, on International Sushi Day, lovers around the world pay tribute to the fusion of flavors, culture and precision that make this Japanese specialty special. Data from the Glovo app – the country's leading multi-category delivery platform – confirms that sushi is no longer reserved only for special occasions in Montenegro.
During 2024, Glovo app users in Montenegro ordered as many as 79.287 servings of sushi, thus confirming that Japanese cuisine has become firmly rooted in local gastronomic habits.
Sushi as a ritual: habits that speak louder than numbers
Consumption has grown month after month – from a slow start in January, all the way to December when Glovo saw record demand. This trend suggests that sushi is increasingly becoming a choice for the end of the year, moments of socializing and celebration with light but sophisticated bites.
According to the data, weekends are the days when sushi is ordered the most — Friday, Saturday, and Sunday together account for almost 44% of total weekly consumption. Friday stands out in particular, which has, quite naturally, become a kind of "sushi day" in many Montenegrin homes — ideal for relaxing after the work week and starting the weekend with your favorite snacks.
During the day, the highest number of sushi orders is recorded between 16 pm and 20 pm - which tells us that this dish is increasingly becoming a favorite choice for enjoying after work or a light dinner with family and friends.
Podgorica's biggest sushi lovers
When it comes to the total consumption of this dish via the Glovo application, Podgorica leads with 65,77%, while Budva takes second place with 21,94%. Other coastal cities, namely Tivat, Herceg Novi, Bar and Kotor, together account for slightly more than 12% of total consumption. This data shows that sushi is not just a summer story and a tourist hit, but that it is slowly but surely becoming a part of the everyday life and eating habits of the inhabitants of Montenegro, and Glovo, as the most popular delivery application, brings sushi delicacies right to your door with its fast and reliable service.
What is ordered the most?
The top five most-searched sushi products include tried-and-true classics – Philadelphia rolls, Biba rolls and various types of maki. This clearly shows that users on the app value familiar tastes, but also authenticity. The most orders come from popular restaurants such as Who the Ma, Nama Sushi, Chi Le Ma Plus, Sushi & Pizza Market, Sakura i Cool Roll.
It is particularly interesting that some users of the Glovo app in Montenegro do not order sushi only occasionally, but opt for it regularly - as shown by the example of a customer from Budva, who ordered this dish as many as 119 times over the past year.
