Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG) participates in an international conference Energy Week Western Balkans 2025, which will be held in Montenegro on October 8th and 9th, organized by the British consulting company Invest In Network. This prestigious gathering brought together more than 250 participants from the countries of the region and Europe, including government representatives, ambassadors, regulators, power companies, international investors and financial institutions. The main objective of the event is to strengthen regional cooperation and accelerate the energy transition of the Western Balkans towards sustainable energy sources, in line with the European Green Deal and the goals of climate neutrality by 2050.
In the opening speech, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EPCG, Milutin Đukanović, stated that Montenegro has become a leader in the development of renewable energy sources in the region, and that EPCG is already implementing projects that contribute to achieving that goal:
"What is the essence of the energy transition? A stable energy sector and, as much as possible, lower electricity prices for our citizens. And how to achieve that? By providing more than enough electricity. By the end of the year, we will have a total of almost 200 MW of new sources of electricity, both from the sun and from the wind," said Đukanović.
Speaking about the importance of battery systems, the President of the Board of Directors of EPCG emphasized that the business philosophy of our company Produce where you spend uz Using hydropower infrastructure to connect solar and wind power not valid if it does not track renewable energy sources strong development of battery systems"This is exactly what Elektroprivreda is doing and by 2027 we expect to have, with our own efforts, 600 to 700 MW of new energy sources," said Đukanović and added: "The more new renewable electricity sources, integrated with battery systems, the cheaper electricity will be for our citizens," he emphasized.
Đukanović added that EPCG expects a public call for strategic partners to be announced very soon: "The state-owned company is doing its best. Of course, the conditions are difficult because they involve procedures, public procurement, etc. That is why strategic partners are very important. There are new technologies, new knowledge that are extremely important for further development. And finally, EPCG is opening up to private-public partnerships. So, we are ready to find a model, I am announcing this publicly, which is primarily of essential interest to EPCG, and the potential partner will in no way be harmed, but quite the opposite."
"From the big stories, things are very simple and straightforward. We just need to roll up our sleeves and get to work," concluded Đukanović.
The two-day meeting will discuss key issues for the region's future energy development, including accelerating the construction of hybrid plants, strengthening grid resilience, de-risking investments in solar and wind power plants, and improving market mechanisms such as Contracts for Difference (CfD) i corporate PPA model. Special attention is paid to industrial decarbonization, electricity market development and the potential of hydrogen in the future energy mix of the Western Balkans.
In addition to the President of the EPCG Board of Directors, Milutin Đukanović, the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to Montenegro also participated in the conference. Andrea Marcella, Minister of Energy and Mining of Montenegro Admir Šahmanović, Minister of Energy and Mining of the Republic of Srpska Petar Djokic, and President of the Energy Agency of the Republic of Serbia Dejan Popovic, General Director of the Electric Power Company of the Republic of Srpska Luka Petrović and many others.
EPCG remains committed to the vision of Montenegro becoming an energy independent, modern and green country, with sustainable use of natural resources, digitalization of business and development of new technologies that bring benefits to both citizens and the economy.
