The existing plant at the Grbe bb location was installed in 2009 and has been in operation since then. After more than a decade and a half of operation, the company decided to replace it with a more modern, efficient and safer system, adapted to the needs of the production process and the specificities of technological wastewater generated in the meat industry.

The decision was preceded by a market analysis process during which PrimatoP collected five offers and spoke with companies specialized in this field. Different technologies were considered, their characteristics, safety and expected efficiency, but also the experience of the bidders, maintenance capabilities and long-term sustainability of the system.

Price, according to the company, was not the only criterion.

"An investment of this value and importance required us to make a decision professionally and thoroughly. From the beginning, we clearly communicated that the replacement and modernization of the plant was not in question, but we wanted to collect offers, talk to expert companies and compare available technologies before making a final decision. After a detailed analysis of five offers, we chose the solution that we believe best suits the needs of our work unit in Spuž," PrimatoP said.

Experience in the food industry is one of the key criteria

The company Eko-Vode Tim, which deals with the design, construction, reconstruction, optimization and commissioning of wastewater treatment plants, was selected to implement the project.

One of the important reasons for choosing this particular contractor was his experience with technological wastewater from the food, meat and dairy industries.

Among their references are projects for several dairies in the region, including Moravica in Arilje, Spasojević in Bajina Bašta, Milovanović in Šabac, Ekofil in Petrovac na Mlavi and Eko Mlek in Kaonik, where they were engaged in various phases of design, construction, reconstruction and optimization of the system.

They also have relevant experience on the Pekabesko project in Skopje, where testing of technological wastewater treatment was carried out, followed by adaptation and expansion of the plant with a capacity of 500 cubic meters of wastewater per day.

The company's references also include projects from other industrial areas, as well as plants of various capacities in the countries of the region and the European Union.

From conversation to concrete investment

The decision-making process was preceded by continuous communication with the relevant institutions. PrimatoP representatives held meetings with inspection services, local authorities and relevant institutions, informing them of the company's intention to replace the existing plant with a new system.

The company was also open to discussions with other interested parties during the process. Meetings were also held with individual representatives of the non-governmental sector, with whom the possibilities of consultative participation and possible support in finding available European sources of funding were discussed.

PrimatoP, however, tied the implementation of the project to its own capacities and decided to finance the investment worth more than 300.000 euros entirely from its own funds.

"We have taken on the obligation and are now entering into its concrete implementation. The signed contract, defined work plan and secured funds are the most important part of this story for us. We will continue to cooperate with the relevant institutions and inform them, as well as the public, about the dynamics of the project," the company said.

The works are planned to be completed and the new plant put into operation by December 1, 2026.

By investing in a new wastewater treatment system, PrimatoP wants to provide a long-term solution for its Slaughterhouse and Processing Plant unit in Spuž and improve the way wastewater generated in the production process is managed.

For the company, they say, a responsible attitude towards the environment implies, above all, concrete decisions, investments and their consistent implementation.
