The issue of affirmative action will be opened in the temporary committee for the reform of the electoral legislation only if it can improve the electoral environment, said MP and acting president of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party of Socialists Nikola Rakočević.
Representatives of the Albanian parties announced that they will request that the temporary committee discuss the return of the guaranteed mandates for the political representatives of that national minority.
Rakočević claims that DPS will be focused on the key work in the work of the temporary committee in the Assembly.
"The key task is to improve the electoral legislation in accordance with the recommendations of ODIHR from 2016 and 2018. The issue of affirmative action, which implies equal political status to political parties representing minority nations, will be open like any issue for which interest is shown but also based on the need to improve the electoral system and the environment for the elections," he told "Vijesti".
The post-election agreement between the "Albanians resolutely" coalition and the DPS stipulates, among other things, that the issue of guaranteed mandates be resolved by 2020, when regular parliamentary elections are expected. The president of the Albanian Alternative (AA), Nik Đeljošaj, said that the Albanian parties must be united in the negotiations on electoral reforms.
"I think this is a very important moment for our vision and integration. I hope that certain political subjects will change their minds and that we will overcome mutual misunderstandings for the good of our compatriots", said Đeljošaj.
The decision on the formation of a temporary board was voted at the ongoing Assembly session.
